It wasn't very private when you consider all the lurid tell-all Hollywood tabloids that have always existed.
What has changed is that the line between those and the mainstream media has been erased.
You simply hear about more of the shenanigans of actors, and more quickly, now.
This is a bad movie nomination list. I remember it was bad the year "American Beauty" won as well.
Cinematography, makeup, and music - woo hoo!
LOL
that 12th General Order I keep forgettin'
Semper Fi
Yep.
Vera Drake was actually praised by Vatican radio. It was not a pro abortion polemic by any means. And Staunton was brilliant.
"With all the misery and suffering in the world, how can Hollywood hold its annual self-celibratory extravaganza. Better to cancel it and send the money to the tsunami victims."
Here here! I second that! Cancel this self worshipping show of garbage and send the money to the tsunami victims.
I've seen all of the nominees for Best Picture, and am probably leaning towards "The Aviator" as my favorite. I will definitely be rooting for Catalina Sandino Moreno in the Best Actress category. "Maria Full of Grace" was a stunning film with a strong pro-life message. I have it on DVD and would encourage Freepers to rent it.
That would make a bookend to Michael Caine's abortionist with a heart of gold in "The Cider House Rules". It's Hollywood's updated version of the hooker with a heart of gold.
Vera Drake was a British film that had nothing in common with Hollywood. It wasn't pro abortion either.
Tom Stoppard has no talent? One of the most highly regarded dramatists in the world. What talent does a literature proffesor need other then what they do...interpret literature.
American Beauty was great.
The ones I despised were "The English Patient" (both main characters loathsome people I was hoping would die) and "Forrest Gump", which may be one of the worst movies to ever win best picture.
I swear these things are rigged, notice how they have Foxx for both categories. Ray was color by numbers but he was awesome - collateral was a good flick, but c'mon.
The aviator was pretty good, but the Academy only has it up there because they know they should have given Scorcese about 3 Oscars over the last 35 years and now that he is in decline making "safe" pictures they love him.
So now they can give the oscar to Depp or Eastwood (both deserving) and give Foxx the supporting - of all up there I think it should go to Church.
I think Carradine should be there for KBV2.
Also, Where the hell is Paul Giammati for Sideways? The guy is one of the best American actors alive and he keeps getting shunned because he is Costanza-esque. Million Dollar Baby and Sideways outclass allthose other films by a good margin. The third and forth best films of the year Kill Bill 2 and Passion aren't even up there.
Giamatti's omission was the surprise. If it was rigged then there wouldn't be snubs of Hollywood favorites like Scorsese all these years. They have an independent accounting firm count the votes.
Jamie Fox should walk away with the prize.
