CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) — A middle school principal was arrested Tuesday, accused of offering money to a 14-year-old male student to take off his clothes.

[snip]

Daniel L. Edwards, 55, was being held on $35,000 bail after being arrested at his home in Pennsauken. He faces child endangerment and official misconduct charges.

[snip]

The 14-year-old boy came forward on Monday and said Edwards had approached him three times this month. The principal allegedly asked the student to take off items of clothing, including his shirt, pants and "drawers."

[snip]

The boy put a micro-cassette recorder in his shirt pocket during the most recent exchange, and authorities said that a taped conversation corroborates the student's account of events.

I just wonder if we won't be hearing about the extensive record this guy has, that nobody knew about.

It takes a long time to accrue enough brownie points/teaching credits to become a principal. How did this guy escape the scrutiny our school systems are supposed to have in place? How many other kids has he hurt?

A middle school principal was arrested Tuesday, accused of offering money to a 14-year-old male student to take off his clothes.

Is this a good place for celebrity mug shots?

July 02, 2004 ... nine times. Nine times? Nine times. Jeffrey Jones, the actor universally known as hapless, snarky high school principal Ed Rooney in Ferris Bueller's Day Off and somewhat less well known as a convicted sex offender, was busted in Florida yesterday. Jones failed to notify authorities before moving out of his mother's house and into a new residence, as required under Florida's sex offender statute. The Smoking Gun, which is the last web site you ever want to wind up being featured on, was there, obtaining a copy of Jones's arrest card as well as the excellent mug shot to the right. Personally, I always thought that guy was a little too convincing as a high school principal...

I was skeptical until I read this part of the story. Clever kid.

One very smart kid. Who would the "school authorities" have believed without this proof?

There's no real scrutiny of our publik school systems on anything these days, let alone sexual abuse.

If the truth about the prevalence of sexual abuse by teachers and faculty were known, it would probably make the Catholic Church sex abuse scandals look insignificant. But for some reason, the media usually doesn't want to go there.

It's curious that the media would be afraid to take on the teachers' union.

It almost makes today's teachers' union sound as bad as back in the old days with the Teamsters, the Steelworker's Union, the autoworkers, etc.

Just wait until the anti-Linda Tripp crowd wakes up. They'll surely denounce this little creep for violating the prinicipal's privacy.

Really? My kids' schools require a background check on all parent volunteers. Before I can begin my student teaching, I must have a background check and somewhere in the process (of being hired) I'm going to be fingerprinted.

Anyone without a record is going to fall through the cracks, but what else would you have them do?

Sure, school systems may do (sometimes haphazard) background checks before someone is hired. But it's practically impossible fire a tenured teacher, even if he or she has been accused of sexual abuse on numerous occasions. Abolishing tenure so that those who have a history of sexually abusing children can actually be fired instead of being perpetually reassigned, often to other jobs working with children, would be a start.

I wonder how we can have some guy in Ga chasing Scouts, a School story and others today - yet the MSM never uses the word GAY to describe men chasing boys. What is wrong??

It's the media doing what the media does... SPIN, SPIN, SPIN.

"Homosexuals don't commit child abuse. Only heterosexuals do."

The news is agenda driven.
