I'm sure my fellow Freepers know these players, but they may not have this detailed info. Scary group.

Now comes the Tides Foundation and its recent offshoot, the Tides Center, creating a new model for grantmaking -- one that strains the boundaries of U.S. tax law in the pursuit of its leftist, activist goals.
...snip...
The Tides Center board of directors has been especially busy of late. In 2001 the first Tides franchise office (not counting Tides presence in Washington and New York) was opened in Pittsburgh. This new outpost, called the Tides Center of Western Pennsylvania, was erected largely at the urging of Pittsburgh native Teresa Heinz (the widow of Senator John Heinz, the ketchup heir). Heinz pulls more strings in the foundation world than almost any other old-money socialite; shes presently married to U.S. Senator John Kerry (D-MA). The Tides Foundation has collaborated on funding projects with the Heinz Endowments (Teresa Heinzs personal domain) for over 10 years.

Among the most unbelievable projects of the Tides Center is something called the Institute for Global Communications (www.igc.org). IGC is a clearinghouse for Leftist propagandists of all stripes, including living-wage advocates, anti-war protesters, slave-reparations hucksters, and a wide variety of extreme environmentalists. In February 2002 Orange County Register columnist Steven Greenhut called it a network of the loony left that has to be seen to be believed One alert posted in an IGC member conference calls for financial support for the Earth Liberation Front Another message warns readers against cooperating with the FBI.

Absolutely stunning. I've written grants and have known about the proclivities of many foundations but this web site is one I've never seen before. Thanks for finding and posting it.
page gone. hmmmmmmmmmmm
John O'Neill is a DEMOCRAT - voted for Clinton and Gore.
This actually might explain why the left was so outraged at him .. not just because he attacked Kerry - but because he was a democrat.
According to O'Neill's book - "Unfit for Command" - he explains all that - and he explains why his "band of brothers" were committed to defeating Kerry. It was not to support Bush - it was to defeat Kerry - and it wouldn't have mattered who Kerry was running against.
I saw him state on TV that he had no relationship with President Bush - and was never contacted by the President.
O'Neill's book is a treasure trove of information. If people would be willing to read it - they might be more properly informed. However, if people refuse to be informed .. what can you do? But .. don't stop feeding them the correct information. A few quotes from the book might help.
Sorry satchmodog9, not sure what happened.

What you report is what has often been reported here before about the Tides Foundation, much of which was taken by web sites of the Heinz Foundation and the Tides Foundation themselves.
For instance, payments to the so-called 9/11 Widows, who held several widely published press campaigns blaming Bush for their husbands' deaths, were evidently channelled through the Tides Foundation. In effect, the leader of this bogus organization is on Teresa's payroll. So Teresa used her influence with the Heinz and Tides foundations in that matter, and probably others, to support her husband's presidential campaign. This strikes me as a clear violation of laws for tax-exempt and charitable foundations.
