LOL.. well duh. My nine year old figured that out. LOL. She has seen my pics of micro- organisms plus the macroscopic world. With no federal funding and no advanced degrees- she figured out it would be statistically impossible no matter how many millions of years for each organism to develop from one common cellular structure. She thought that even after a gamillion years we would be lucky to have a small portion of living organisms today.
Critical home- grown thinking.

In simpler terms, the mechanism of natural selection, central to evolutionary theory, cannot possibly account for the development of so many varied and complex life forms simply by mutations in DNA. So says the president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, in his expert biological opinion. Does he do astrophysics and analytical chemistry too, or does he limit himself to the life sciences?

Care to post her calculations?

Perhaps she'd like a grant application after all ;)

There's very little debate on the subject on FR, because one of the sides is largely incapable of understanding that the debate is about the origin of species, not the origin of life.

NOTE: This is a 'truth of science' debate. Leave God out of it, and keep minds open! Um...is it just me, or is critique of existing theories the process by which theory is refined?
Is Darwin's model even considered beyond that process?

Leave God out of it, and keep minds open! The above comment is non-sequitar. If one is bigotted then it would erroneously not see it as non-sequitar.

The origin of life is still a definite conundrum.

"With no federal funding and no advanced degrees- she figured out it would be statistically impossible no matter how many millions of years for each organism to develop from one common cellular structure." And those folks over at DU have figured out it was statistically impossible for George Bush to have won the election. Both of you are on similar methodological grounds.

Yes, and Stephen Meyer has his Ph.D. in the history of science, rather than in an actual scientific discipline. As for his claim that mutations in DNA do not give rise to new body plans, perhaps he hasn't heard of Hox genes or in other genes that confer positional identity on the cells. Mutations in these genes, can quite easily disrupt the formation of bodily axes.

Yawn. More BS hyperbole from religious ignoramuses.Beautiful scientifically elegant and educational response.

There's very little debate on the subject on FR, because one of the sides is largely incapable of understanding that the debate is about the origin of species, not the origin of life. So you are claiming there is not scientific explanation for the origin of life?
Interesting claim on your part.
