BS! I'd like to see where in the No Child Left Behind Act it says you can't have a spelling bee.

I got a C in English once. The teachers discriminated against me. My self esteem was ruined for at least 15 minutes. Why did they let those other kids get better grades than me. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!

Well, I think they out to rule out As, B's, Ds, F's. It's not good for the self esteem of under acievers to fail and the honor roll kids leave the "average" behind. Just give them all Cs and let um watch tv all day.

Another example of the spreading idiocy in America today. I guess common sense truly is an oxymoron in our brave new world.

"children must reach high standards, which conflicts with the spelling bee."
Only a professional educator with a degree in education would be able to understand this.

Good Grief, are they going to cancel sports too. Some team might lose.

I was once a candidate for the school spelling bee. I lost and I got over it. In fact, I think I forgot about it the next day. These people need to get a life.

They know this is not what NCLB is about. But remember it's all about FEELINGS... Linda Newman, assistant superintendent of schools in Lincoln, R.I., said it's her understanding that President Bush's education initiative says all children must reach high standards,

School Committee Chairman Jeff Weiss told the paper he was unaware the event had been cancelled. But Newman said the cancellation is an administrative decision that does not require committee approval. Yeah, administrators have the final say on how your children are educated!

Linda Newman sounds like she has some serious mental issues. Next you can't have a football team either, leaves a bunch of kids behind, same for the band.

Of course they're not going to single out children as winners or losers- I mean, that doesn't happen in the workplace or anything. </sarcasm>

I think what she is saying is that there is no time for spelling bees in today's public schools because that time has to be used to teach kids how to take their high-stakes tests so educrats such as herself and her cronies don't lose their job and the school doesn't close down.

They're all nuts. It should be a top priority of conservatives to break the teachers' unions.
