I wonder if she cancelled all special Ed and GT programs?

Oh but they do- and they play games where no one keeps score. What galls me is nobody seems to have the nerve to laugh outright at this idiocy and expose these charlatans. Thank goodness none of this crap happened to my kids (so far lol).

Geeez...more lack of sense and intelligence from the "authorities in charge".....they totally miss the meaning of no child left behind.

Under this form of "logic", would it be safe to say that both Bush and Kerry should have won, so Kerry would not have had his "feelings hurt"?

This is just stupid. S-T-U-P-I-D Stupid. From her lack of understanding of what NCLB is all about, I'm surprised she is not in psychiatry instead of education. Those people usually have more "issues" than the general population. How sad.

Well, I think they out to rule out As, B's, Ds, F's. It's not good for the self esteem of under acievers to fail and the honor roll kids leave the "average" behind. Just give them all Cs and let um watch tv all day.

I think a better name for the program would be NO CHILD GETS AHEAD. Sorry, Susie, you're not allowed to learn algebra until dumbo here learns his times tables, which probably will be never.
Or maybe it should the HARRISON BERGERON program.

Linda Newman, assistant superintendent of schools in Lincoln, R.I., said it's her understanding that President Bush's education initiative says all children must reach high standards, which conflicts with the spelling bee, the Woonsocket Call of Rhode Island reported. This Freeper says that it's my understanding that linda newman is a lazy slattern who wants to do as little work as possible

Ahhhhhhhhhhh I can't take this idiocy anymore. I just get this blinding desire to take these administrators and dunk them in wells all over the US. Why are we as a nation committing constant suicide?

"It's about one kid winning, several making it to the top and leaving all others behind," Newman said of the competition, which culminates with the Scripps Howard National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. "That's contrary to No Child Left Behind."

Linda Newman, assistant superintendent of schools in Lincoln, R.I., said it's her understanding that President Bush's education initiative says all children must reach high standards, which conflicts with the spelling bee, the Woonsocket Call of Rhode Island reported. She's either dumb as beans or a radical egalitarian extremist. A little healthy competition is not outlawed by No Child Left Behind Act.

So, the school system has an assistant superintendant, and presumably, a superintendant. What kind of example is it to the kids to have one or two people in charge of the rest? The others are simply left behind. This cannot stand.
So, they cancel the spelling bee. Now, instead of "no child left behind," we find that ALL the children are left behind. With no competition, there is no incentive to succeed.
The lack of foresight and thinking things through is the very reason for no child left behind. Sheesh!!!

Self esteem, yup, we've got the most self proud burger flippers, cashiers and bag boys in the whole frigging world.

This is just the Left making the statement "be careful what you wish for.... so,
nyah!"
If the Left doesn't care about hurting the whole COUNTRY with their idiocy if it meant it could help them 'win', why would they restrain themselves from using little kids to make a statement about their views?

FYI, Rhode Island is home of the scoreless soccer games.
Nobody must feel bad. Nobody must achieve. Nobody must strive to win and be a champion. Every child gets a ribbon for being mediocre.
I am very afraid. But more angry...I have a 2 yr. old grandson, and I'll be damned if these idiot, happyhead cowards get the best of me. It's so small that the goomba morons running the State of RI,etc. feel that they can do whatever they like....as long as it includes federal funds.
Rhode Island is a cesspit. All anyone needs do is to look at our Congressional Delegation. Between Patches Kennedy and Jack Reed, we have a...ZILCH.
