How awful. Prayers for the family.

Generally when it's pit bulls, the MSM will specify it, just like they note when it's an SUV in a traffic fatality (but otherwise generically say "car" or "truck"). When they just say "dogs," that usually means it doesn't fit their (global warming/Iraq=Vietnam/SUVs=bad/Pits/Rotties = evil) favorite storylines.

I checked further...this report does mention pits and a mixed breed, running wild/out of owner control. Outrageous.

Don't know. At first the news was they thought she had been hit by a car and were looking for the driver. All of a sudden the news is she was attacked by dogs.

running wild/out of owner control. Outrageous.

Outrageous, but alas all too commonplace.

Then there's this report, which only mentions the pits and lets the mixed breed off scot-free. It also mentions that no charges have been filed against the owners, which seems insane.

It does mention that it happened at night after the poor kid sneaked out of the house...but if she ran afoul of someone's nighttime watchdogs on their property, I don't think she would have been found in an area by the road. Very weird and sad case.

Agreed -- I don't understand why some dog owners lets their dogs run wild.

Same could be said about parents and 14 yr olds.

Re: owners letting dogs run wild.
Most city types moving out into country just will not believe that their little doggies go feral once beyond owner's yard.
You simply cannot convince them that poor little Trixie, who babysits will chase/kill.
First I tell, then I yell, then call warden.
That failing it's S.S. & SU.

Where I come from, landowners aren't a bit shy about controlling dogs which run loose on their property; this is why they carry rifles in their vehicles.

When I was a kid living in the country our dog and our neighbors dogs ran free. Nobody thought anything of it. The dogs were all friendly and they didn't seem to roam very far from home.
