Vampire Bat.com ^ | 25 Jan 05 | Compfused.com

Posted on 01/31/2005 2:42:50 PM PST by datura

I just found this over at Vampire Bat, did a search for it in here, and didn't find it. I know there are lots of posters in here who have never had the opportunity to see a Vulcan or other multi-barreled weapon fire - well, HERE IT IS!! Once you see this video you'll want to show it to everyone you can........Damn I wish we'd have had those machine guns in our units when I was in.

If you have a dial up connection, be patient. IT IS WORTH THE TIME TO DOWNLOAD THIS VIDEO!!!!

IMHOpinion the most famous Spectre is named Azrael, the Muslim angel of death. Azrael is retired now to the Air Force Museum at Wright Pat. She was in Gulf war 1 and did the majority of damage on the Highway of Death. Her crew singlehandedly STOPED the Iraqi escape until the F-16's and Hogs could get there. I believe they were awarded the Presidential Unit Citation. Go to the AF Museum site and she is pictured on a taxiway.

I guess hard to get in! Back in the day GE used to test Mini-guns near El Toro Marine Air Station in SoCal. You could hear it for miles!

Humm I always thought the F-16 had a Vulcan 20mm. Although it is possible pods of some type were used. The Hog on the other hand has ALWAYS had the Avenger 30mm the airframe was built around it.

We (my hub and I) were not into the the Gatlin guns until GD bought us in 2000 (maybe it was 1999). We were Saco Defense Inc. (which was owned by Chamberlain Mfg. until they sold). It's a long story.

I can personally say that that the people who work these programs are AWESOME people. I know them personally.

I want one of those. Do they sell them at gun shows?

Only the hand cranked versions. Those are perfectly legal to own. BATFE does not consider them machine guns, and by the definition in the law, they aren't. The powered ones are however and all NFA rules and laws apply. But you can buy one, maybe even at the really big or special gun shows which concentrate on NFA weaponry.

Dang! Looks like a firehose spraying lead instead of water.

Some of the shots looked like they either had all tracers loaded, or at least a higher ratio of tracers to ball or AP than is the usual practice.

I remember pilots telling us that the gun would cause the jet to vear to one side from the recoil.

The F-16 gun is a 20 mm. The one the A-10 is built around (yep!) is a 30 mm. That one makes it feel like the aircraft is hitting a a wall. In the early flight tests there were all sorts of problems with the gun gases being ingested into the engines and causing flame outs.

Saw that. Depending on what side your on, that could either be a vision that brought joy or sheer pants filling terror.

Well the Taliban thought it the Angel of Death, while the Northern Alliance troops rather liked it. Of course when the female weapons officer, with reportedly a very sultry voice, on board would get on the radio and tell the Tallibunnies that their buddies just got killed by a girl, which was promptly translated by the Northern Alliance troops and/or their US/Brit/etc. advisors, who were also on the freq, that was even better. :)

waste of ammo but sweet.

Not a problem if you've got a C-130 airframe to haul it around with. Great area suppression weapon.

G.E. We "bring good things to life."

I used to sit in the top of a bunker at night in Phu Loi, with a fifth of Jim Bean, and watch the gunships workout on VC with miniguns.

Having seen Vulcans Up Close And Personal. It sounds like a Death Ray. The tracers make it look like a cown pi$$ing on a flat rock, TChris.

Dang, I need a cigarette.

Jack.
