Straw raps war 'antis'

Lashed out ... Jack Straw

FOREIGN Secretary Jack Straw last night savaged anti-war hypocrites now applauding Iraq’s spectacular election triumph.

He accused them of wanting to leave Saddam in Baghdad, free to carry on crushing his people.

And he lashed those who want allied troops to go home and leave Iraqis in the lurch.

Mr Straw told MPs: “That would be tantamount to ensuring the new forces of democracy are weakened and the forces of terror are strengthened.”

He tore into Lib-Dems, telling them: “The consequence of your position was that there would be no democratic elections in Iraq. Saddam Hussein would still be in power and crushing the people.”

The appeasers
THE smug sanctimony of the Liberal Democrat party over Iraq is nauseating.

Foreign affairs spokesman Sir Menzies Campbell tells the Government this is not the time for triumphalism.

And, gloating that the Lib Dems voted against taking military action against Saddam Hussein, he calls for British troops to be withdrawn from Iraq before the end of the year.

What a ludicrous proposition.

The brave Iraqis have just shown the terrorists that they will not bend to the bullet or the bomb.

But a massive task still lies ahead before the murderers are beaten and Iraq is rebuilt.

Setting a timetable for our troops to pull out would put the terrorists on notice that all they need do is bide their time until they are given a free rein for their wicked campaign to resume.

Foreign Secretary Jack Straw could not conceal his contempt for the Lib Dems’ jelly-like stance.

Parliament voted to send our forces to Iraq, he reminded Campbell, and MPs must shoulder the responsibility of that action.

If the world had listened to the Lib Dems, Saddam Hussein would still be ruling his tyrannical empire and democracy in Iraq would lay trampled in the dust.

Is that what the Lib Dems wanted when they put appeasement before principle?

Something tells me that Britain's Foreign Secretary and our new Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice, will get along just fine  :-)

Amen from the beach!

Now if Straw will do something about the Mullahs in Iran
I would be very happy with him!

About time this duffer said something sensible.

He's a dickhead but I have to agree with this speech.

I wonder who wrote it for him?

I am also not a fan of Straw, but give him credit for this statement, another one who has a sense of timing to know the train is leaving the station and he needs to get on board. Now if he can grow a pair and negotiate from strength with IRAN, I will be impressed.
