GOP Sees Future In Black Churches (The Crumbling Of The Liberal Plantation Alert)
Los Angeles Times ^ | 02/01/05 | Tom Hamburger And Peter Wallsten

Posted on 02/01/2005 12:47:57 AM PST by goldstategop

But by courting conservative blacks in battleground states — reaching out through programs such as the president's faith-based initiative — GOP organizers believe they made the difference that secured Bush's victory in 2004. In Ohio, for instance, a concerted effort increased black support for Bush from 9% in 2000 to 16% in 2004, providing a cushion that allowed the president to win the pivotal state outright on election night. The Black Contract With America will be unveiled by Bishop Harry R. Jackson Jr., a registered Democrat from suburban Washington who backed Bush in 2004 after voting against him four years earlier. He was drawn, he said, to the GOP's social conservatism that he thought reflected the true values of black churches.

Black Churches have been the least noticed new player in the GOP. Most blacks are unlikely to desert the Liberal Plantation any time soon, but enough are reconsidering so that its crumbling at the edges. Eve a 5% rise in black support for the Republican Party would paralyze the Democrats. It made the difference in Florida and Ohio. Keep hope alive! (laughing)

Not a bad plan. If you go into a black church, be prepared to stay for a while.

President Bush got 14% of the black vote in FL and 16% in OH. A better showing in those key states than his national 11% average.

The great *switch* is coming. Republicans have the most pro-Black platform (e.g. privatizing Social Security so that Blacks, who average living only to Age 61, can pass on to their heirs their SS money, which without Privatization wouldn't start paying out until age 65).

Republicans freed the slaves; Democrats went to war to stop 'em.

Republicans founded the NRA; Democrats passed the first gun control laws in the South to *prohibit* Blacks from owning firearms.

Jim Crow laws; all passed by Democrats.

Bull Conner, George Wallace, and the highway patrolmen who beat Blacks on the Edmund Petus Bridge in Alabama: all Democrats.

Republicans introduced and passed in the House and Senate the 1965 Civil Rights Act; Democrats filibustered against it.

Republicans appointed Clarence Thomas as a Supreme Court Justice; Democrats waged war against him.

Republicans appointed Powell, Powell, Paige, and Rice to top-level federal positions; Democrats can't even put two Blacks onto Senator Kerry's campaign staff (even Donna Brazille is left out in the cold in favor of lily-White shrum).

Democrats let lily-White Pelosi steal Black Harold ford's House Minority Leadership role.

Democrats let lily-White MacAuliffe steal Maynard Jackson's DNC leadership role.

Republicans favor faith-based charities; Democrats oppose them.

Republicans favor private scholarships for inner city minority youths; Democrats oppose them.

Blacks and Republicans are overwhelmingly pro-life; Democrats are officially pro-abortion.

As far as I can tell, the lone "issue" on which most Blacks and Republicans disagree is on Affirmative Action.

Frankly, that one point of contention is not enough to keep Blacks from choosing to become Republicans if we Republicans do a better job of selling our other positive issues.

The bumper stickers alone that I'm seeing here in Alabama show that a shift is coming.

Republican officials, such as outgoing party chairman Ed Gillespie, have said they think the percentage could rise to 30 in the next presidential election — a prediction that even some GOP strategists called overly optimistic.
I share that optimism. Ideas can spread quickly.

This isn't about Harold Ford, Jr. We already know that you don't like him.

What this is about is the fact that no matter how loyal American blacks are to the Democrats, blacks still won't even get nominated, much less approved, for senior Democrat Party positions.

It's another point that must be highlighted.

Blacks will never leave the liberal plantation. On this plantation they get the slop fed to them by their liberal slaveowners who feed them daily with race baiting propaganda, and freebies like affirmative action and welfare. I would love to be wrong and watch blacks become free thinkers but if blacks by in large cant support the ideals of their faith (abortion and homosexuality is wrong) why does anyone think they will change their party affiliation. Republicans should not pander to blacks any longer (or any other group) - stand for truth and freedom and allow others to join.

Here in the Land of Lincoln, Dr. Alan Keyes' main project is in the black Chicago churches.

Great progress is being made.

His FR detractors can kiss my patootie.

Republican efforts in this area have to be REAL. It is imperitive that we aren't offering nothing but an alternate plantation instead of true freedom.

That's all I have to say right now. Off to a meeting...

Your crazy - I hope Im wrong and your right but come on blacks pretend to be Christian and vote for candidates who are pro-abortion, pro-homosexual, etc... Blacks are not going to leave a party which continues to pander to them and supports their racists views against America (especially white America). Liberals have a strangle hold on blacks for many reasons - race baiting, welfare entrapment, hate affiliation - blacks are comfortable in this easy chair and quite frankly I dont ever see the possibility of more than 15% ever leaving the liberal slave plantation. But I would LOVE to be wrong.

Get ready to be wrong. I would agree with you if Blacks had remained static, and many of them have, especially the uneducated, lower class, broken family groups. But....the sea is changing, and many of the building middle class and young educated Blacks see their way to prosperity and the American dream is through assimilation into the general, free enterprise American society.

You should also take note that Hispanics have passed Blacks and are now the largest minority group in the USA. Hispanics are smart enough to realize that you don't ever, ever, put all your political eggs in one basket, as do Asians. Couple these two minority groups together, and the Black vote becomes less meaningful all the time. I could go on and on with the changing tide, but I will conclude by saying, honestly, the Congressional Black Caucus and the NAACP have no political power whatsoever in current Washington, DC, and won't have it for a very long time.

Average Blacks see this, and are beginning to get the picture that they have been had by the leaders, and certainly by the Democrat "Slave" Party. Change is coming!!! How quickly remains to be seen. If Black folk don't change their political loyalty, they will forever remain chained to and in their Black communities, and worse, chained to the bottom of the economic and opportunity totem pole where the Democrat Party has kept them for over fifty years. Please keep in mind that GW Bush picked up enough increased Black votes in Florida and Ohio, enough to give him victories in those crucial states!!

SO, because we will never win the MAJORITY of Blacks, does that mean that we, as conservatives should just "give up, and concede the black voting block, to the DUmmies"? I for one do NOT think we should.

BTW-- 25% of the black vote, would be a NUCLEAR ATTACK on the dems, as far as their ability to win, or even steal elections goes. AND, it is a goal, that I think, can be reached, with a little effort.

Back in July, we here in Ohio had been told, that "you guys can never get a marriage protection ammendment, on the books, in your state". Did we all just give up, and cry"woe is me"? NO!! I for one, passed around one of those petetions, and LOOK WHAT THAT RESULTED IN, it brought more voters to the conservative side here in Ohio-- Maybe even, it gave us that little cushion, we ended up with.

He's a purely political animal. The very definition, even.

He's extremely handsome, well-mannered, has an appealing personality, very smart, and can speak convincingly. Having said that, he should be the GOP's worst nightmare.

But he's not.

The Dems don't realize that personal and political ambition can override one's loyalty to a political party. Their snubbing of him and the late Maynard Jackson could very well bite them in the butt.

Agreed. And the Dems are trying to whitewash Blackwell from all over the nation. Case in point -- the current issue of the Buffalo Beast (their weekly "free newspaper") includes a list of the "50 Most Loathsome People in America", and topping that list is Blackwell.

What did these morons have to say about Blackwell?

Crimes: The greasy, rancid piece of crap who delivered Ohio for Bush by any means necessary, and then bragged about it in a recent fundraising letter. A black man who has no reservations about screwing over his own people in his lust for power and money. Blackwell is the kind of soulless traitor without whose complicity no nefarious evil plot ever goes down. In step with the future of global elections.

Smoking Gun: Phony recounts, media lockouts, intentional misallocation of voting machines, you name it.

Just Punishment: Dissolved in barrel of acid.

Yet the left tries to paint themselves as the self-righteous, self-appointed "friends" of black America. With "friends" like those, who needs enemies?

I hope you're right. It's occurred to me on occasion (for example, when watching him on Fox & Friends), that Ford might be a good candidate to come over to our side. If he's that politically savvy, surely he sees that it could be a good move for him. If he's smart he'll stay where he is for about four years, not p.o. the republicans in a major way, gain more experience and prestige, and see how the next two elections go. By that time he could be a major pick-up for the republicans.

Yeah right when RINOs say to blacks that we need affirmative action which you and I both know is legalized racism then that not pandering? My point is that conservative values win the argument day in day out. Im willing to put up for debate conservative values vs. liberal values anyday. But if we have to change conservative values re. welfare, freedom, speech, value oflife, religion, educatiion, taxes, and judging people based on merit (vs. liberal race/gender mantras) then it is not the party for conservatives. Unlike the libs, what should draw blacks to voting Republican and even more important voting Conservative is the value of ideas.

BTW - Your commnent "if you dont want me in" sounds like a black liberal trying to accuse me of being against you based on your race, nice try but it wont fly - if you really want to move forward then debate me on the merit of my ideas and historical proof of my argument.

I don't have to justify or prove myself to you or any other knuckle-dragging jerk who feels the necessity to bitch at me.

You want to go off on blacks who enjoy drinking the Kool-Aid, that's fine, but to try to insist that black conservatives or any other conservatives who are interested in working to show black America that there is another way are wasting their time and "pandering", you're full of it.
