Many TKS readers are asking about this odd comment by Kerry:
SEN. KERRY: I still have the hat that he gave me, and I hope the guy would come out of the woodwork and say, "I'm the guy who went up with John Kerry. We delivered weapons to the Khmer Rouge on the coastline of Cambodia." Actually, looking back at the original article in which Kerry mentions the lucky hat, Kerry didn't quite specify the purpose of his mission with the man who wore the hat.
A close associate hints: There's a secret compartment in Kerry's briefcase. He carries the black attaché everywhere. Asked about it on several occasions, Kerry brushed it aside. Finally, trapped in an interview, he exhaled and clicked open his case.
"Who told you?" he demanded as he reached inside. "My friends don't know about this."
The hat was a little mildewy. The green camouflage was fading, the seams fraying.
"My good luck hat," Kerry said, happy to see it. "Given to me by a CIA guy as we went in for a special mission in Cambodia."
Kerry put on the hat, pulling the brim over his forehead. His blue button-down shirt and tie clashed with the camouflage. He pointed his finger and raised his thumb, creating an imaginary gun. He looked silly, yet suddenly his campaign message was clear: Citizen-soldier. Linking patriotism to public service. It wasn't complex after all; it was Kerry.
He smiled and aimed his finger: "Pow."
Of course, Kerry has said "I remember what it was like to be shot at by the Vietnamese and Khmer Rouge and Cambodians," suggesting that he was being shot at by the Khmer Rouge.
But James Robbins of NRO wondered about this:
could Kerry have come under fire from the Khmer Rouge and Cambodians? At the very least one wonders how he knew the identity of those who were shooting at him. The claim of having faced off with the Khmer Rouge is most suspect. In the period in question, Pol Pot's band was not very large, and was based mainly in the mountains in the northeast corner of the country. The Khmer Rouge did not become a major fighting force until 1970, when with Chinese and North Vietnamese support, they expanded from a few thousand to 100,000 fighters. Instapundit looked at the Khmer Rouge claims during the campaign, with many links.
The Powerline guys looked into this and concluded, "Different sources assign different dates to the beginning of military action by the Khmer Rouge, but we've seen no support for the proposition that the Khmer Rouge were in the field (as opposed to existing as a political organization) in January 1969."
Short version: I have no idea why Senator Kerry claimed on Sunday to have been on a mission to ferry weapons to the Khmer Rouge, the Communist army under the direction of Pol Pot.
None of those Democrats are good salesman. Gore and Kerry both look dishonest. Where can they find a sincere looking and sounding Democrat?
You hit the nail on the head. It just amazes me that the common man (or half of them) cannot see through the bullsh-t that he was pushing. He reminds me of those guys in the army that would get all the awards even though we did 100 percent of the work, and all they did was pose and kiss the commander's arse. It all catches up to you eventually and this is surely the case with this poser.
Dang...remind me to never pi$$ you off. Great rant.
He's a loon. Good thing he will never be POTUS.
Kindergartners have been expelled for this, and less.
<< I thought John-boy delivered those munitions when he visited Paris......... >>
He had to "go to Cambodia on a secret CIA Christmas-surprise to to gun-run for Pol Pot and the seven dwarves" -- everyone knows that!
In Paris the mongrel bastard delivered the lives of almost 60,000 brave American Men and of of the three million South-East Asians murdered as the direct consequence of his treason.
'The mission was so secret, he would have to kill himself if he actually knew about it.'
Well, I hardly have a right to vent about JFK compared to you. Regards.
I am going to steal that one of these days for a tagline at the appropriate spot.
You are more than welcome to it. Thanks for noticing.
Thanks for the ping!

Didn't he also say that he had pictures?
Just ask Martin Sheen if he remembers going in there with Kerry to terminate Marlon Brando. That should clear up the confusion.
Thanks for the ping!
Did he not tell T. Russert he'd sign it, what is he waiting for?"
From the truth is sometimes stranger than fiction dept: I did read somehwere that he has stated since that interview that he DID sign his 180. But he just hasn't sent it in yet
JOHN KERRY came back from the Vietnam War to call us American Soldiers fighting for the Freedom of others there...
...rapists and terrorists who cut off heads and ears. When in fact it was our Communist terrorist enemy we were fighting that was doing so.
MEL GIBSON came back from filming our real Vietnam War Story titled -WE WERE SOLDIERS- ..so inspired that he decided that he had to finally make his long planned ultimate story of Love & Sacrifice titled:
..-The PASSION of the Christ-
I wonder who got it right..?
