Embassy Row - Chavez insults Rice
Wash Times ^ | 2/3/05 | James Morrison

Posted on 02/03/2005 11:21:00 AM PST by pissant

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez called Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice illiterate and suggested in a speech last week that she had sexual dreams about him, prompting outrage among Venezuelan women's groups, which denounced his "obscene and lewd" remarks. In his Jan. 23 speech, Mr. Chavez said Miss Rice "keeps demonstrating complete illiteracy." "It seems that she dreams about me. I can invite her on a date with me to see what happens to her with me. She said that she was sad and depressed because of Chavez. Oh, daddy! She should forget me. What bad luck this lady has. I don't want to make that sacrifice for my nation," he said, according to Venezuelan reports.

He is entering the realm of Kim Jong Il.

He's been there since the beginning. But he's one of Jimmy Carter's favorite dictators, so you never hear anything about it in the big world.

Maybe this will change now.

I can't believe the Venezuelans aren't storming the Presidential Palace to get rid of this guy. They'd better do it soon, their window of opportunity is closing rapidly (if it hasn't already). We've all seen this movie before.

Condi and rummy are gonna get cozy when dealing with Venezuela.

Folks forget ... diplomacy is merely using force to get what you want ... you start with words and end with bombs.

The day Bush takes notice of him will be a bad day for him.

The US needs the long term stability that can only come from a freely elected democracy - not the short term "stability" of a whack job like Chavez.

Chavez is an ugly thug and a complete moron. Still, I bet seeing the likes of Senator Sheets Byrd condemn and insult Dr. Rice on the floor of the US Senate emboldened him to make remarks like this.

The biggest exporter of Oil to the US is Venezuela. A war, armed conflict or guerilla movement would stop these exports. This would cause the US economy huge damage.

Also Chavez has the support of the masses. The coup was very unpopular among the poor and would have been unsuccesful in the long term.

If they had a unified opposition they could have a chance but they do not.

Venezeula, like other Latin American nations, has a huge poverty stricken population with a massive gap betwen richa dn poor. The political elite in the country have done little to gain their support.

I do not like Chavez but am willing to acknowledge that the poor like him because he actually tries to do thing sfor them. My main issue with him would be land expropriation rather than election fraud.

There are not many dictators that would allow a recall referendum.

If we can traipse to the other side of the globe to bring stability to that dump, there's no reason why we couldn't "stabilize" Venezuala.

The rest of the southern continent could use the eye opener.
They are not our friends.

I think there are other ways of working on Venezuela.
Simply put it just is not the time to be messing around with one of the US's main oil suppliers.

Iran and the ME is a far bigger issue.

(1) Chavez does not have the "support of the masses."

(2) If he did, he wouldn't have been subjected to a recall election.

(3) He did not willingly hold the recall election - he did it under extreme duress after his attempt to suppress this constitutional process was met with rioting in the streets.

(4) We don't need to invade Venezuela - unlike Iraq, a rational, organized opposition still exists in the country despite Chavez' efforts.

Kill Chavez and a few dozen of his cronies and Venezuela is back on track.

...........................................................

He has more support from the masses than wwhat is left of the un-united opposition. Most people in Venezuela are piss poor and he offers themhope so they support him.

The middle and upper classes hate him though.

As for the recall as far as I know NO ONE in the Whitehouse has called it fraudulent.
