A 19-year-old Lawrenceville resident came very close to smuggling a loaded pistol into the Gwinnett County Jail this week. He also may have come very close to seriously injuring himself. A search of the suspect revealed that he had hidden the loaded .25-caliber pistol between his buttocks, authorities said. "My understanding is that it was fully loaded with a bullet in the chamber," said sheriff's spokeswoman Stacey Kelley. "I don't now how he was able to conceal the weapon in that area. It is very unusual." The incident occurred Tuesday after the suspect, identified as Clifton Alexander Carter, was seen on the campus of Central Gwinnett High School, Kelley said. "A school resource officer recognized him and knew he was wanted for a charge in Barrow County," she said. The resource officer called Lawrenceville police, who arrested Carter near the campus and took him to the Gwinnett jail. Deputies frisked Carter at the jail and felt that something wasn't quite right, Kelley said. A deputy then performed a strip search and found the gun, she said. "We are proud that our deputy was diligent in his job and was able to locate the weapon." Carter, who is not a student at the school, was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, carrying a weapon on a school campus and possession of a weapon by a jail inmate, among other charges. He is being held without bond.

If this fad catches on, pistol holster manufacturers in this country are in big trouble.
