NEWARK, N.J. -- Dozens of Honduran women and girls were smuggled into the United States and forced to work at a bar to earn freedom from the traffickers, federal authorities charged.

The women told agents they had expected to work as waitresses in restaurants, but were ordered to drink and dance with men at the El Paisano Bar and Night Club in Union City.

One woman told agents her family had paid $5,000 in Honduras to have her smuggled, but "after she got to the United States, she was told that she owed another $15,000 smuggling fee," according to documents filed in U.S. District Court. One illegal immigrant said she had been trying to pay off her debt for two years.

They're only drinking, dancing and having sex (probably) with strangers which are jobs Americans don't want...really.

The trafficers deserve a fair trial and a fast hanging.

The way to reduce trafficking in illegal immigrants is to make it easier to immigrate legally. It's logical and obvious.

That makes me wonder what nationality the girls are that BJ Klintoon has working for him in Harlem.

The illegal immigrant gets screwed ever step of the way. Don't think that those making minimum wage are living the life of luxury. The men and women are abused because there isn't anyone to report bad behavior to. Themselves here against our nation's laws, they can't exactly complain because the woman gets sexually exploited. The men can't speak up if their employers abuse them with regard to wages et al. Oh yes, illegal immigration is a real hoot until you start thinking about it, realizing what the people who employ them are getting away with.

Yes, it's obvious that taking in every last poor person on the planet will resolve the problem. Several billion people later everyone in the U.S. will be better off. Thanks for the wonderful idea.

And here we thought indentured servants were a thing of the past.

It seems to me we don't come down nearly hard enough on the ones that are employing and abusing these people. Both parties are to blame and I suspect it will take a disaster before we see some change. Sad.

How does the U.S. make it "easier"? Far as I know, millions have used the same method for decades, nay, more than a century with great success. What do YOU propose to make it easier?

I really want to know what you think is easier and please make it "logical and obvious".

Thanks, or should I say gracias, in advance.

Check that "it will take a disaster remark". It will take ANOTHER disaster before they take our border security serious, and then they'll take every damn right we have away in the process.

Easier would be to send Grayhound buses into Mexico in mass, picking up whoever wanted to come north. We owe it to them. Whew!

Good point unfortunately.

But I can't understand why you object to Oblongata remarks. There are people who want to come and people who will employ them. I think increasing the amount of allotted screened immigrants is preferable to the unknown, which leaves a big hole in our security.

Literally! I'm not opposed to prostitution, but this is slavery. The "importers" ought to be tried under anti-slavery laws, which are still on the books everywhere in the U.S.
