AARP Caught Manipulating Poll Results
USA Next ^ | 1/25/05 | Charles Jarvis

Rather than conduct a survey to gauge real opinion, the AARP chose their sample and their questions to deliver the results they wanted. Despite these efforts to skew the survey, the reality is still clear that seniors and all Americans understand that Social Security needs reform and it needs to be done now. Example: 88% to 6% say problems should be addressed now, not later.

It’s important that members of Congress who hear from the AARP on issues of importance to seniors understand the extent to which they are falsely framing the debate over Social Security. The AARP continues to engage in a consistent, deceitful campaign to demagogue the Social Security issue, frighten seniors and policymakers alike, and confuse the public.

While we thought it was important to call your attention to these developments, this comes as no surprise to those who have followed the actions of the AARP. The organization is committed to a political agenda that is out of line with the views of their members and they will do anything to advance that agenda.

For those who don't know that AARP has recieved ONE BILLION in government funds it would be good to learn a little about their agenda and how they go about deceiving millions of older Americans to push the liberal agenda.

If you can't read this now, bump it for later and take a look at This Conservative Group that opposses the AARP.

It took me four returned membership offers for them to get the message that they'll get NOT ONE DAMN DIME from me. Discounts for senior citizens are available from other sources.

I'm shocked! Shocked, I tell you! The AARP cooking the results? How shocking!

I am not suprised, though.

Used to get a lot of mail from them wanting me to join. After I finally threatened to sue if they didn't take me off their mailing list I haven't received anything else from them.

It's time to recognize that the AARP, with 33 million members is one of the strongest liberal lobbying groups in the nation and that a good number of their dues paying members have no idea what they are up to, or why.

Ask any Senior... 99% of them only think of 'discounts' they get on Hotels or whatever with their AARP card.

The OVERWHELMING majority have NO CLUE what the AARP uses these dues for.

I just received my "permanent" renewal cards, which will be activated when I pay my dues (I plead ignorance and youthful inexperience for joining in the first place).

Hillary will tell the truth and clean toilets, before they get another dime from me personally.

Ripoff, thy name is AARP.

The controversy hits after AARP acquired a new pollster to direct their research projects...

Another interesting perspective is that the AARP has not made any mention of the taxation excesses that SS represents. As many are aware, and Washington and AARP refuses to mention in this debate, IS THAT WE ARE TAXED BEYOND WHAT IS NEEDED TODAY TO PAY BENEFITS. Yes, the government RUNS A SURPLUS EVERY YEAR which they immediately shift to the general fund AND SPEND every year!!!!! The liberal agenda of the AARP is in line with the libs in Washington who are trying TO KEEP THIS SURPLUS to spend on their vote-buying programs and be damned with overtaxing the public!!!!

Bush's SS reform agenda must be supported and monies must be put under control of the citizens whose MONEY IT IS. The hacks in Washington, supported by the AARP who is trying to side with the spenders in Washington, must be kept away from our money.... YES, OUR MONEY!!!!

Like Farm bureau, AARP passes itself off as an advocacy organization when in reality, its just a cheap insurance company run by paranoid suits.

It is amazing to me that with 33 million members ARRP can only get you a 10% discount at motels. You would think with that many members they could talk the motels into a 20-25% discount for their members.

It's not about member services. That's the point. It's a lobby group for liberal causes.

Thank you.

I have toyed with the idea of joining AARP in the past but always put it off. I came close when they side with the Bush Administration on the expansion of medical & drug aid legislation that the Dem's didn't think went far enough.

I guess that AARP is back to its pro-Democratic Party ultra liberal ways again.
