The Dems ought to try for something more achievable, such as losing less than 6 Senate seats in 2006.

LOL. Let's hope they lose more than that. It'd be a happy happy day.

If that little creep pinched me, he'd be wearing his little balls as earrings.

Clip on or pierced?

His brother, Ari, is one of the most powerful people in Hollywood. It will be interesting how this will come into play over time.

I think they are trying to find just ONE turnover in order to spindoctor some kind of victory.

Symbolism over substance.

They would not care if they brough back Zell Miller as long as a new "D" appears.

Yes? Whittling down that GOP majority? With Howard Dean at the head of the DNC? Good luck. You're gonna need it, Bubba.

"With Howard Dean as their leader.."

His job is mainly fundraising and organization.

The job of pursuading potential voters to favor them and their policy positions goes to the candidates and sitting politicians, themselves.

The ever charismatic Harry Reid, and the beautiful Nancy Pelosi are the latest banner carriers.

Insofar as Hillary is the strongest bet for top candidate, how does she control the party through Dean?

In a related story, the Detroit Lions are aiming to win next year's Super Bowl.

Historical trends point to Democratic gains in 2006, the second midterm elections of President Bush's administration.

AP fails to note that 1998 elections disproved this trend with Dems picking up House seats.

I think the AP is correct to say that on average the party in the White House loses seats in a mid-term election -- especially in the second term of a president.

It didn't happen in 1998, though. And I predict that Republicans will lose few (if any) seats in 2006.

Dems were supposed to pick up seats in '02, didn't happen either.

The way I survey the canvas, aside from Santorum, the ones mainly in danger are those affectionately refered to as "RINO'S" around here. Mainly because Reps don't like them and the Dems may prefer a REAL "D" rather than one that votes with them.

Other than that there may be some competitive fights but as long as we don't do anything stupid, they'll be safe. While Dems in "red" states are at the whims of the national party and so face strong possibility of defeat so long as we nominate good people.
