Communist China Cold Calls Americans
NewsMax ^ | 2/9/05 | Carl Limbacher

Beginning Feb 6, 2005, dozens of homes and individuals in the Washington D.C. area have been bombarded by phone calls with recorded messages that apparently come from China's Communist regime.

The messages contain propaganda, demonizing the practice of "Falun Gong,” and claiming the Chinese Government is defending "human rights” by "saving” people from the Chinese spiritual practice.

The curious and remarkably benign target of the phone campaign, Falun Gong, also known as "Falun Dafa,” is a spiritual practice that consists of gentle exercises and postures, combined with a meditation component.

Three values - truthfulness, compassion, and forbearance - form the core of Falun Gong’s philosophy. Many liken its technique to tai chi or yoga. The discipline went public in May of 1992, introduced by its founder, Li Hongzhi, and today is practiced in over 50 countries.

When Chinese leader Jiang Zemin banned Falun Gong on July 20, 1999, up to 100 million people in China were suddenly outcast. Evidence suggests that Jiang feared the growing numbers of practitioners and was envious of the practice’s popularity.

Reportedly, over time, Jiang intensified the regime’s propaganda against Falun Gong, while persecuting those who practice it.

At a press conference at Washington’s National Press Club, Wednesday, various people who received the calls shared the experience, playing recordings from their phone answering machines and declaring their chagrin that such propaganda could reach them in America.

Individuals described receiving the calls as "shocking,” "disturbing,” "outrageous,” and "frightening.”

According to sponsors of the press conference, the "phone assault” was not limited to the Washington, D.C. area but targeted hundreds of Falun Gong practitioners throughout North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia - at about the same time.

The message, both in Chinese and English, centered on reports by the Beijing regime attempting to link Falun Gong with an alleged self-immolation incident in 2001.

By midnight Feb 7, at least 23 individuals and families in the metropolitan Washington DC area received phone calls with a prerecorded message, slandering Falun Gong. Some received as many as 18 messages. Most recipients were Falun Gong practitioners.

I think we should start calling every home in China and telling them the truth about Tiananmen Square and their totalitarian government.

Great idea Wagglebee. I wish I got one of these calls. I would have lots of fun telling off the propagandests about Tiananmen Square.

Now I wonder why China thinks it is perfectly OK to do this?

It's bad enough when I get a call from someone in India trying to convince me that I should pay $5 a month to have credit protection on my Discover card (which I pay in full every month to begin with).

Don't worry about China.

It is impossible to have a capitalist and communist system. It's falling apart over there and they know it.

In both Chinese and English? Even in Europe? The French will be outraged!

I signed up for the "do not call list" and went from getting two or three calls a month to five a day! Now I just look at my caller id, if I don't know who it is I ignore it, I figure if it's important they'll leave a message.

Great. Commie callers dialing for whatever. Sounds like a propaganda tool practice run if you ask me. Remember Korea?

Yeah. Wagglebee has a great idea. We should be calling Chinese people and telling them the truth about Tiananmen and their government.

"Now which makes more sense...should the Chinese be hiring chinese workers to make the phone calls or out-sourcing this to India?"

Now there's a thought. A person rings up someone in Shanghai with the intonations carrying an accent:

" Hello Mr. Ling, this is Ping Ng Lau, and I'd like you to hear about our nice new offer on computer services...."
Crashing in the background, the shouting in Hindi....

I've read that a lot of the spyware problems that are plaguing the internet are from China. It concerns me that the Chicoms could have or develop the technology to create an "information meltdown." As for Fox News, Rupert Murdoch is building a 21,000 mansion in Beijing, complete with an underground bunker.

This propaganda is a form of electronical warfare... or maybe say it electronical terrorism. I hope the Al Qaida does not come up with the same idea, causing heavy traffic of communication.

BJ Klintoon didn't give al qaida the information to do it, but I'm sure the Chicoms are marketing it heavily.
