(02-09) 14:58 PST Amarillo, Texas (AP) --
Authorities doubt Cupid had any part in the 9 pounds of heart-shaped candies discovered during a traffic stop.
The candies, found Monday by Texas Department of Public Safety troopers, tested positive for psilocybin, a psychedelic drug extracted from a mushroom of the same name.
The estimated value of the faux Valentine's Day chocolate was more than $408,000, DPS officials said in a news release.
The troopers found the candy in a plastic bag after stopping a San Francisco man's 2005 Toyota Corolla on Interstate 40 about three miles west of Amarillo.
Craig Allen Moreland, 30, was arrested and taken to the Potter County Detention Center on drug charges, the release said.

Here we go again. Watch this one spread so fast that in two days every gossip-susceptible person in America thinks Valentines Day candy is being tainted in droves.

The estimated value of the faux Valentine's Day chocolate was more than $408,000 Big deal. On Valentine's Day that's what 6 dozen roses cost.

plus that is a long ways to drive to buy VD candy. Candy first, VD later.

I wonder about the estimated value of the haul. Even if it was nine pounds of pure psilocybin extract, I doubt if it would have a street price anywhere near $400k. But it's such a bizarre story that I couldn't resist posting it.

9 pounds sells for $400,000? They really estimate that people were willing to spend $2777 dollars an ounce for Phsyco Chocolate. I think the cops may be padding the worth a tiny bit.

I've seen chocolates like this before when I was younger. Supposedly they were made with ground up freeze dried shrooms in little chocolate molds. The ones I saw were little chocolate dolphins wrapped in colored foil. Each one was one dose, and they had to weigh at least a couple of ounces each. I think people were selling them for around $10 a piece. If these found in this case were like those it would be about 72 doses worth around $720 dollars. Even if they were only one ounce each and could be sold to people for $20 each there would be only 144 doses worth $2880 retail.
They are definitely way off on the value of this stuff, by more than $395,000. That's quite an exaggeration. Happens all the time though.
