The Talons of Intimidation- Jeff Gannon's saga

Jeff Gannon - -A Voice of the New Media - The voice goes silent. -- Jeff Gannon  ran an independent news service. He got White House credentials, and was targeted by the Boston Globe in a hit piece because he isn't a "real," that is to say, "anti-administration" journalist.

Representative Louise Slaughter's Dan Rather Moment --
this is the age of Google and web searches, the greatest equalizer since the Colt revolver --
On February 7th, US Representative Louise Slaughter, D-NY, issued a press release on Jeff Gannon, a reporter from the web news site Talon News -- And then, in order to support her charges against Gannon, Representative Slaughter cited an open letter from the Niagara Falls Reporter, which levelelled, among other things, allegations published in the Philadelphia Daily News:

Rep. Slaughter Calls on President Bush to Explain Emerging White House Briefing Room Scandal -- Unbelieveable. FR got Dan Rather and all they can do to respond is go after Gannon and Talon News.
And they did it with a falsified attribution to the Philly Daily News. I had a source there confirm that they ran no such article.
Ms. Slaughter-- why she is issuing a press release without confirming the facts?

Thank you for this recap. I've been following this story most of the day, but learned some new things from your thread. Including the fact that David Brock sent a letter to McClellen on Jan 31, asking him to revoke Jeff Gannon's credentials.

This is a coordinated attack, that the leftist's have been cookin' for a while.

There is no doubt in my mind that this is a coordinated assault from our "friends" on the Left side of the aisle. The redoubtable Rep. Slaughter's blatherings serve as confirmation.

These clowns are so transparent- let us hope the public is catching on to them.

...by the time we're done with them...

I don't think the Old Media ( MSM, Jackal Pack Press, NewzWhores... ) has a clue about how powerful the New Media has become.

Very quietly, right under their noses, first talk radio, then the internet and blogs, simply bypassed them and made them largely irrelevant.

One example:

Yep .. Media Matters is on a witch hunt of anyone that is conservative or speaks nice of conservatives

Then they get sites like Dkos and Atrois to get their readers to go on the attack with letters and phone calles

Tony Blanklet and Brit Hume is on the list too

While Kos is over here....

maybe Zuniga can comment what it is like to be on Howard Dean's payroll...

http://www.armstrongzuniga.com/
under brief history-
In late 2002, AZ began talks with Joe Trippi about Howard Dean’s presidential campaign, which culminated in a strategic map that advocated meetups and blogs in creating an online campaign community, a fundraising base, and the means to nationalize the Dean for America grassroots campaign far in advance of the elections. In April of 2003, AZ founded the DraftClark.com effort. In May, AZ took on our first political clients, including Howard Dean. Our clients include federal candidates, issue advocacy groups, and non-partisan organizations.

this might be added to the list.
A freeper directed it too me.
Not only is dailykos on the Dean payroll....it seems, while misrepresenting how press passes are obtained, kos folks mention how they have a nice little contact in ...
Howar Kurtz- Wonder if this may be the kos "investigator" that Kurtz and others have mentioned.

http://georgia10.dailykos.com/story/2005/2/7/203035/3282

There's no indication in the column of when McClellan said this, however. Kurtz did get one important thing out in the open: that Gannon uses a pseudonym "he declines to reveal." (No one has yet attempted an explanation of why the Secret Service would approve a "reporter" with a false name, which tells me that they know very well what his real name is.) In an effort to find out a bit more, and to see if he could tell me how to apply for White House press credentials, I called Kurtz. But he never called me back. I guess when you're a big-time columnist, you're awfully busy.

However, a long-time friend who writes for one of our larger metropolitan dailies was able to give me the name and phone number of the person who handles administrative matters for their international news desk. That person was extraordinarily helpful and, once I had explained that I was trying to discover the process to apply for White House press credentials, offered to call the DC bureau for me.

The information returned from the large metropolitan daily's Washington bureau confirmed what I suspected all along: Anyone seeking a White House press pass must write, on official letterhead, to Jeff's friend Scottie."

That may be the reason for the big push on the Gannon guy in the past two days...

They want to diver attention for CNN's guy who bashed our troops.

They probably want to divert attention for Dr.Rice's success on her trip as well.

Then there is the WaPo retractions. They are about to go on their second one after falsely reporting on some White House policies (kudos to the White House for playing hardball on that one)

Then there is the simple fact that they want only liberals in the White House press corps.

Even Fox has Carl Cameron in there now.....a lib.
He was more than happy to break the Bush DUI story.

I just went to Talon News and looked at the articles they have on their site...

Those are real news articles. Kurtz and Co. seem to be claiming that it's not a real news site.

But if you cross check their articles with those from other news outlets.....
You can see that they are real news events...and they are reported as happened.

I think folks like the NY Times and WaPo and MSNBC are trying to paint them as a bogus site so they don't have anybody out there to put out both side of the story.

Trying to discredit- or ridicule- an opponent is one of the Left's oldest tricks.

What they- and the Jackal Pack Media- don't realize is that in this new information age, data flows where it will- like water, it seeks its own level.

They no longer control the flow of information, and the truth will shake out eventually.

IMHO, the MSM is fighting a rear guard action against the free flow of true information and they are beginning to realize how much they are losing, ala the unsuccessful "Anybody but Bush" campaign. It is getting nasty and ugly and the MSM/DNC likes it that way, they will be on constant attack, if only to deflect the attention away from them. What they do not realize is they are continuing to lose and at the same time to become ever more clownish....the Truth will ascend eventually and I am glad to be alive to see it happening.

This whole thing smells like a setup.

How was the LIEberal media investigating another reporter for being "White House Friendly" so quickly after "Jeff Gannon's" (who resigned from Talon News- see statement at bottom) false quote of Senate Democrat Harry Reid ?????!!!!

"Jeff Gannon" owned HotMilitaryStud.com, MilitaryEscorts.com and other such sites.

There's more to this story but I think he's a LIEberal who infiltrated and was bait which some at Talon News apparently took.

- Statement concerning former Washington, DC correspondent Jeff Gannon Talon News

Washington, DC reporter and White House Correspondent Jeff Gannon submitted his resignation from our organization effective February 8, 2005.

I understand and support Jeff's decision, and have accepted the resignation.

We are currently evaluating candidates to fill this critical assignment, and anticipate minimal interruption of Talon's coverage of our nation's capitol and the White House in the meantime.

This is an excellent backgrounder, should it be added to your list?

What seems to be shaping up over the last two days, is that the Gannon hit squad seem have 'issues' around the topic of gays. This hit seems to be led by David Brock using Media Matters as it's cover, but the motivation that appears to bubble to the top, the one that bonds this group together, is their apparent desire to go after anyone they perceive as anti-gay this or that.

--It's noted in this backgrounder;

--It was noted by Wonkette here:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1339334/posts?page=651#651

refers to as "the gay-baiting liberal blog scene,".

--It was noted by MurrayMom here: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1339334/posts?page=677#677

The point is that unlike "Jeff Gannon" (not his real name), none of the other WH journalists are publicly homophobes responsible for "m4m" websites.

--and lastly, so far as I've read, it was also noted by:

Markos Moulitsas, a San Francisco liberal who writes the popular Kos site, said of Gannon: "He has been extremely anti-gay in his writings. He's been a shill for the Christian right. So there's a certain level of hypocrisy there that I thought was fair game and needed to be called out."

[snip]

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1340055/posts / 27

What is strange to me is why Slaughter involved herself in this. If she is not part of this group of activist bloggers out to smear conservatives and silence their voices, then what is the connection?

I wonder if any of the MSM news coverage mentions this aspect of the 'taking down' of Gannon.
