When a tax is more than the worth of the product itself, it is not a tax, it is "legal prohibition". The difference is: It's likely that 95% of the population of government workers probably drink and only 1/4 smoke.
But government knows best? Really....solving budget problems with "GAMBLING" is not a solution. It creates ANOTHER PROBLEM ...AND.. there is no product produced.

"Driving out the smokers and the alcholics sounds like a good long term plan to me. Less insurance health and auto costs plus a safer environment. Go Jodi."Feel better?
Now give yourself a great big warm hug.

Tax the fattie's income at the rate of 1%/lb over the government set ideal weight. I know some folks that would be paying 200% of their income in taxes.

Driving out the smokers and the alcholics sounds like a good long term plan to me. Less insurance health and auto costs plus a safer environment. Go Jodi. What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. May God have mercy on your soul.
If you think the cost of the above mentioned items will go DOWN because of TAXING away smokers, you're delusional. Besides, when the smokers are gone, they'll tax your pecker. They HAVE to have the money to run the marxist agenda.

I am waiting for smokers (or any group carrying the majority of the burden) to be given vouchers for extra votes. Shouldn't those funding the government get more of a voice in how it is run?

Ct needs to drive someone out, it might as well be alchies and smokers. The rest of us can divie up the remaining jobs.

It's the same strategy as the Democrats have been trying to apply to taxation as whole for years. You increase taxes on a minority (rich people, or, in this case, smokers) so that you only piss off a small number of people who weren't likely to vote for you in the first place. The difference here is that Republicans are just as happy to enact sin taxes as anybody else.
As soon as the cigarette companies fold the burden will be shifted more to alcohol. Then they'll move to gasoline or they'll enact high taxes on recreational items (boats, planes, motorcycles, etc.). Of course, once they've taken all of your money all they'll have to do to get you to vote for them is offer to give a little of it back.

Ya gotta love the way they think.
Don't tax him, don't tax me, tax that man behind the tree.

get rid of alcohol and tobacco consumers and you anti freaks will be freaking out because it will be you covering the budget shortfalls. Our schools will have more room, our roads will be less congested and safe from alchies, our parks will be cleaner, our nursing homes will have fewer residents, our auto insurance rates will decline, our group health costs will be less. All in all not a bad deal. Maybe they can all move to Utah.

I'll get a 10% tax break or refund because I am 10 lb under the ideal weight. Smoking and drinking cuts into my food money. So I keep my priorities straight.

Governor M. Jodi Rell
Budget Address
February 9, 2005
It speaks to our expectations, to our needs and to our dreams.
It speaks to how we wish to help those among us, most in need of the caring hand of government.
As I have said before, our economy is still too fragile, too many of our citizens are still without jobs and too many of our businesses are still closing their doors.
What we cannot do - what we must not do - is to jeopardize our slow yet steady recovery by unduly burdening our already overburdened taxpayers. (Except CT's smokers!)
Three levels of government. Three budgets. Three tax bills. One taxpayer.
(You've got to be kidding me!)
Yes, one taxpayer who knows it's a false cry to advocate for property tax relief when the way to pay for it is to raise their state taxes. One taxpayer who knows that it's a false cry to say Washington should pick up the tab so the state doesn't have to. False cries because in the end it is the same beleaguered taxpayer footing the bill - and finding no relief whatsoever.

And when the tax code gets dumped you'll be out of work and whining about how unfair it is to you.
Get a life......and stay out of others.
