Congress Prepares To Sharpen Watch On United Nations

UNITED NATIONS - As the United Nations' chief of staff attempted a charm offensive on Capitol Hill yesterday, legislators signaled they will deepen and diversify the various investigations of the organization and said that American funds might be withheld if significant changes fail to materialize at Turtle Bay.

Chief of Staff Mark Malloch Brown met with a host of American legislators in an attempt to convince Washington that findings of the Volcker committee, named by Secretary-General Annan to investigate wrongdoings in the oil-for-food program, are being taken seriously and that major reforms are afoot.

Prior to chairing his own oil-for-food hearing in the subcommittee on international oversight and investigations yesterday, Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, a Republican of California, had a private appointment with Mr. Malloch Brown, who deliberately scheduled a series of sit-downs with some of the U.N.'s harshest critics.

"I thought that he was a charming man, and I thought his message was unacceptable," Mr. Rohrabacher told The New York Sun. "You can't charm yourself out of this one." Mr. Malloch Brown's visit was preceded by news of yet another scandal, this time at the Geneva based U.N. affiliate World Meteorological Organization, where documents show that an employee pocketed at least $3 million of the agency's money, as the New York Times first reported yesterday.

If I had it my way, Kofi would get a 30 day eviction notice and a grand jury subpeona all at the same time.

Most eviction laws give 30 days. Of course we could arrest Kofi for fraud and money laundering immediately. Of course we'd need some good lawyers to figure out a way to bypass the diplomatic immunity laws.

Simply withdraw membership from the UN and serve notice that
they must leave US soil immediately.

Ground for such notice is that they refuse to respond to
duly authorized US panels for information on .... well
lets just say oil for food as a starter.

This thing has been junk for years. To bad, to bad.

Ah yes. They will be about as effective in "sharpen[ing] watch" on the UN as they have been in sharpening watch on the federal agencies responsible for bungling the signs and warnings which led to 9/11.

You mean like the FAA that got warnings as far back as 1998 on ZipperMeisters watch.

H.R. 1146 will WITHDRAW the USA from the United Nations' madhouse/cesspool

Go to: http://www.getusout.org/un/index.html . Then go lobby at http://www.conservativeusa.org/megalink.htm .
The United Nations is a corrupt disgrace and it is time for the USA to WITHDRAW from and defund the United Nations. Please tell your senators, congressmen and everyone you know to support Representative Ron Paul’s bill H.R. 1146 which would WITHDRAW the USA from the United Nations, prohibit US funds going to the UN and prohibit US troops serving under UN command. H.R 1146 is the American Sovereignty Restoration Act.

Yes, certainly the FAA, but I'm also referring to all of the federal agencies having anything to do with intelligence collection and processing, and domestic security. By now, it should be clear to even the dumbasses making up that 49% gaggle of the stupid, that 9/11 was a federal government failure of massive proportions. And, well over three years later what has been done, really, to get on top of this and fix the problems urgently requiring correction? Other than the usual bureaucratic smoke & mirrors and rearranging the deck chairs, damn little. One more 9/11-like event and the federal government is going to be hard pressed to explain why it should any longer be trusted to protect its citizens.

Give them a day or so -- okay, maybe a week to clear out their stuff, then implode the building and turn the land into a parking lot.

The UN needs to join the League of Nations on the scrap heap of history and be only a minor footnote in a school history book as a failed idea.
