Seriously, permafrost occurs here and there; everywhere at higher elevations. We live along the yukon, so you have to go up about 500 feet in elevation to find it. No stunted black spruce around my place, all big birch & old spruce.

Ya know, 2 weeks back I helped dig a grave for a goldminer neighbor that passed on; and ground was only frose down to about 3 feet.

Don't think I could ever deal with all the noise you have in urban areas or seeing a truck and not knowing everyone in the driver's family. Sense of security or peace of mind. No prop taxes or local, state, income, sales taxes just comes with the territory. I use to pay 10 grand a year in just local & state taxes back east.

That's nothing. Back in my day, the kids used to walk to school in the snow and ice barefoot with their feet wrapped in barbed wire. But not for me, unfortunately. My family was so poor that we couldn't even afford the barbed wire.

How is the heater in the cab?

The heater keeps the windshield clear very well, and keeps the occupants from freezing to death. That's about it.

Won't fit in the garage.

2 solutions.

Get a troop carrier Unimog, then remove the tops. It should fit then.

Or get a chainsaw. ;-)

What's a 1/4 mile of shoveling to a determined person bent on getting to work?

Sarcasm? I hope not.

mlmr relies on men with big plows and buckets to remove her snow. A showshovel is too complicated.

The Yukon sounds nice. Things are crowded here in Maine.

A Mercedes Benz Unimog.

Is it a German troop carrier or truck? Military?

It looks extrodinarily useful.

Pictures are from Greenland...
They said it was an igloo hotel.

Makes me cold just thinking about it.

A lot of people here don't even own a snow shovel. We don't like to be caught doing physical labor. As one pipeliner said : if a machine can do the job a man would be a fool to not use the machine. I suppose that is true, but in my present state of retirement zen, I would prefer to use physical labor if at all possible. Of course, my driveway is only 1/8 mile and they aren't expecting me at the office anytime soon.

Hope you had another cup of coffee, logged on to FR, put your feet up and just enjoyed being home. Sometimes being snowed in is kinda fun. :)

Is is extremely useful.

Mine is German Army surplus. It was a "Funkwagen", or radio van.

We use it all the time in our business for shows and races to haul our diplay and products.

Actually the Unimog and trailer are the base of the display. Folks always come over to see the Unimog.

Sometimes we use it to compete at 4X4 events. Depending on the obstacles it can put on quite a show.

Yesterday we drove it to our daughters house with our Rokon Trailbreaker in the deuce and a half trailer.

My son in law and his relatives were on snowmobiles and ATVs.

The Rokon took me everywhere they could go and then some.

Nothing beats a two wheel drive motorcycle with ATV tires on it!

Also when they had to stop at the road I could keep going as My Rokon is also street legal. (heh-heh)
