Delivery discrimination claimed Pizza policy angers local NAACP head, others

Two pizza delivery chains refused to send drivers to a public housing community Thursday afternoon, shocking and angering members of the AIDS/HIV Services Group and the president of the local NAACP.

Kathy Baker, ASG’s executive director, said that when Domino’s and Papa John’s were called to deliver to an HIV testing event at Westhaven public housing community, the businesses responded that they don’t deliver to Hardy Drive.

“I find it quite inappropriate. Whether it’s intended or not, it results in socioeconomic and racial discrimination,” Baker said. “We order pizzas from them all the time and it never occurred to me that it would be a problem. It seemed mind-boggling that they could consider doing that.”

Managers from Domino’s and Papa John’s said they don’t deliver to certain areas of the city out of concern for their drivers’ safety.

First off, you miss the basic premise behind the democratic party and the NAACP, which is that these people are not in housing because of their own fault, neither is the crime rate in their area too high due to their own killing of people and robbing them, rather it is the white mans fault, through years of oppression and racism, it is people like me and my family who are to blame.

Secondly, you somehow imply that ghetto blacks could and would clean up their mess. How very racist of you! Only continual funding of black programs by the federal gub'ment could clean up their mess, lower crime, etc. To even imply, that this is something that could do would have lead to the impression that they are somehow "empowered" and we can't have that. Also on that note, you seem to think that ghetto blacks WANT to clean up the ghetto. How white of you.

Don't you know that there is status in living in horrible ghettos? Have you not watched MTV over the last 15 years? The most popular tattoo on black youth these days is "Ghetto Thug". No my friend, this is not something that ghetto people would or could change.

Therefore, it is OUR responsibility. It is the responsibility of big bid'ness, and gub'ment.

Your statements have lead me to believe that you are somehow one of the kook right wingers with no sympathy for urban plight. You are starting to sound like Bill Cosby, and if you keep it up, we will pay someone to make allegations against you, to show what a hypocrite you really are and diminish your ability to voice your views on minorities improving their situation through better lifestyles.

So in short, how DARE you even try to imply that this is somehow their own fault. It just shows that you are racist.

I delivered pizza when I was in high school and in college.

There were places to which we would not deliver.

We would meet people a short distance away in a well lighted place if they wanted to do that instead.

Being a pizza delivery person is statistically significantly more dangerous than being a police officer. A higher percentage of pizza delivers are killed on the job than police officers.

A limited number of the people in taxpayer-supported rent free homes with digital cable are there because of bad situations beyond their control, but the majority are there because of bad life-decisions or sheer laziness or greed to suck off the government teat. Basically, they are only there to keep a democrat in office.

Yeah we should deliver pizza to you - even though FBI crime statistics show that most racial crimes are committed against whites by either blacks or hispanics - it is not the other way around. As a former Pizza Delivery Guy I am all in favor of it.
We had lost several drivers to fatal robberies – one was a cop working a sting trying to help us. All of the national chains stuck with the “no weapons” policy, we (being a local chain) did not. After several bad guys were shot we had no more problems. I delivered in bad neighborhoods and actually had to step under crime tape one time. No one bothered us.
The national chains still had problems.

I recall a disgusting statistic from college - if a structure is built for housing rent paying tenants, expect 50 year viability, but if that structure is to be used for "public housing" expect a 20 year life.

Why is public housing so much nicer (initially, anyway) than bachelor enlisted quartedrs at any military facility? That sure doesn't seem fair.

I had a friend's brother deliver a pizza to a ghetto in COlorado Springs, only to be tied up, stuffed in his trunk, and almost murdered. He was lucky in that the cops got to the bad guys driving his car before they killed him.

Some people think "racial discrimination" is a magic phrase that allows them to get whatever they want whenever they want. There is obviously other factors involved.
The sad part is that many others have been trained to back down once somebody says the magic phrase.
