Billboard Delivers Right Jab To Hollywood
Internet Broadcasting Systems ^ | February 10, 2005

LOS ANGELES -- A conservative group is giving thanks where thanks is not wanted.

Citizens United posted a billboard thanking Hollywood stars for contributing to the re-election of President George W. Bush.

The billboard includes the text "4 More Years ... Thank You Hollywood!" It features pictures of Michael Moore, Whoopi Goldberg, Ben Affleck, Chevy Chase, Martin Sheen, Barbra Streisand and Sean Penn.

"Using a billboard, thanking Hollywood for helping re-elect George Bush is somewhat in fun, but also delivers a serious message," said Dave Bossie, president of Citizens United. "That is, every action has an equal and opposite reaction."

Citizens United is the same group that mounted a counterattack against Moore's "Fahrenheit 9/11" called "Celsius: 41.11."

The billboards are more than one block from the site of the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood and Highland, site of the Academy Awards presentation. Citizens United said it has plans for more billboards in the area.

Hollywood's always screaming about McCarthyism and free speech. Let's see how they react to this.

Excellent! I've been hoping for something like this. I mentally gave thanks to all those folks on November 3, 2004.

Camera angles out front will conveniently miss that in the background.

Don't be surprised if they find someway to shield it from the delicate eyes of the naive little people of Tinseltown.

This is not for commercial purposes, it is political speech, you can use the likenesses. If those people had not joined the political realm on their own they might have a case against Citizens United.

They really are an ugly bunch, even Bennifer does not look that great in the picture.

LOVE IT!! It must feel real good to do that! - Here, take it! (in your face...) I was thinking the same thing last night during the Democrats farewell to McAulliffe - I kept thinking... would not be nice to have some Republicans "Thanking him 'sincerely' for everything he had done for the DNC" and welcoming Dean as well ...

The only good thing about Michael Moore is that he makes me feel like a better person by comparison. Every time I see him, I feel more attractive, intelligent, and well-groomed. HA!

Thank you Citizens United!!!

I heard David Bossie respond to this issue. Apparently, it was discussed with CU's attorneys and there is case law establishing that, once they entered into the political arena, likenesses used in the political arena are not subject to copyright, etc. protections.

(No, I'm not a lawyer; I thought about going to law school, but sobered up before I could enroll.)

And these are just a few of the more prominent boils on America's backside. Don't forget (how can we): zany professor Churchill and 90% of our universities faculties, Al Franken, Sheryl Crow, the Ditzy chicks, Margaret "Me Too!" Cho, that glib yahoo from Comedy Central (just to name a few 'lock-step liberals') every Canuckistani east of Ontario . . and all the other 'fearless individuals' reading from the same so-very-tired script.

Entertaining and humorous, absolutely, but gloating does not advance one's agenda or influence. In fact, by increasing your opponents desire to unite against you, it does more to advance the cause of your ideological foes than your own.

Anyway, it made me laugh.

Too bad Nick Nolte and Michael Jackson didn't campaign against Bush, could've put their mugshots on the billboard.

I agree. They did not choose flattering pictures of the 'stars'. (i love it) The exception would be Streisand. I would have preferred if they had used that other picture of her without makeup. But then, we don't want to go blind either.
