Isn't it strange that heated discussions take place here about illegal immigration and the threads still exist and most are not banned..

It is the heated personal attacks, profanity, name calling and totally losing it that gets people banned..even some of that is allowed if no one complains..I just read a thread and know this to be true..Some are banned and some hot tempered posters are suspended for a cooling off period.

Illegal immigration has been a problem for decades and how to put the toothpaste back in the tube is the problem.

It concerns me as well but it is like excessive government spending. We didn't get to this point over night so don't expect a solution tomorrow morning.

If we were to deport every illegal alien tomorrow, unless we physically close the borders at the same time, within a month most will be right back here doing business as usual.

Figure out a realistic way to close the borders and then you can worry about the ones already here. Until then it is all an exercise in futility.

I hate expanding government in any way but I wonder if a new form of border patrol is not in order (On both Borders and all ports of entry)?

I envision a modern border system where we would have forts every so many miles staffed 24/7 by border guards who have the right to detain any and all persons who cannot prove citizenship and can process, hold, and than expel these illegals back across the border. Give them all the surveillance and capture equipment they need. Also make it humane and above all make it a harsh penalty for mistreatment of illegals. I know it would cost billions but I believe it would save us in the long term.

And despite the best efforts of Peace Fresno (who smeared FR as a violent "hate group" and ended up settling out-of-court) and so-called comedienne Margaret Cho (whose website cited Stormfront's attempt to recruit Freepers to their racist crusade but didn't mention Freepers' virulent rejection of Stormfront), FR's reputation has grown to its benefit.

As so many turncoats say, "Free Republic is not free." FR is not mine, and it's not yours. It's Jim's. If he chooses to shut it down, there isn't anything any of us could do about it (except create a pale imitation of it, as two former Freepers have).
