It most certainly does. This whole incident kind of shows you the difference between real Christians, like the Cheneys, who love their daughter no matter what, and phonies, like the Keyes, who are too busy throwing stones in glass houses.
I live in Illinois, but couldn't bring myself to vote for Keyes in the Senate race, even though I always vote Republican and find Obama ultra-annoying. I'm kind of glad that I didn't now after seeing the way he treats his daughter.
Love? Doing nothing while their daughter puts herself on the road to hell is "love"? Sounds more like indifference to me.
Revelation 3:15-16I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarmneither hot nor coldI am about to spit you out of my mouth.
The very opposite is the truth as spoken by Jesus himself. The Cheneys apparently love their daughter more than the Lord.
Cool your jets, there, girl.
Now what's this about how "he treats his daughter"? How old is this daughter, hmmmm? First, none of my kids still live under my roof at that age. Second, they all pay their own way through college. We also have household rules. I suspect the Keyes household is no different on that score.
She chooses a lifestyle that her parents find abhorrent and do not choose to have under their roof. THAT is their right, sweetie.
No one said a word about them not loving her. My guess is Dad would gladly lay down his life for her, any time, any place.
BTW......I'm a dad of seven, including two daughters. I think I understand the "fatherhood" issues involved here very, very well.
*** DING DING DING *** No more calls; we have a winner!
Welcome to FreeRepublic.
If you really believe there is a God who is holy and has set forth laws to be followed or... be ultimately sentenced to hell, then you would never allow your child to believe that their immoral choices are fine and dandy. Every child becomes a free willed adult and if they choose to go separate paths from their parents, then so be it. Just don't try to play victim because Mom and Dad won't give you money and a free ride while you pursue a path completely opposed to their beliefs.
God is love and has holy standards. He requires His followers to have holy standards too.
Parents don't owe their children a college education. It's a priviledge.
I am sure Dr. Keyes loves his daughter very much. But he isn't going to change his beliefs and principles because his daughter doesn't adhere to them, nor will Dr. Keyes support behavior that he believes is very wrong, by supporting his daughter. If Maya doesn't want to respect and abide by her father's rules while living in her father's house and being supported by her father's earnings, Doctor Keyes is not required to maintain his end of the bargain.
In my humble opinion, Keyes' way of handling the situation is far more honest than the Cheney's. You don't change your own moral beliefs because your children have gone astray.
However, both families are entitled to deal with such problems the way they see fit. Regardless, I still respect both the Cheneys and the Keyes'.
Geeeeee, a newbie who claims to vote Republican but would never vote for conservative candidate's name here
Whadda surprize.
B.S.
Alan Keyes is a real Christian; loving your daughter doesn't mean being a pushover. Also, can you explain how this incident is a case of throwing stones from glass houses?
Is it love to let your child continue in a lifestyle that alienates them from God and condemns them according to scripture?
