Google Employees - Including CEO - Gave Overwhelmingly to Democrats (98% to Dems)
Interest Alert ^

Search engine is cash engine for Democrats

WASHINGTON, Feb. 14 (UPI) -- Employees of U.S.-based search engine Google gave $207,650 to federal candidates for the 2004 elections -- virtually all of it to Democrats.

A USA Today analysis published Monday indicated 98 percent of the money went to Democrats, the most-lopsided giving of any of the top tech company donors.

Microsoft was the biggest tech donor, with its political action committee contributing $3.1 million last year, 60 percent to Democrats.

Overall, 53 percent of high-tech industry contributions went to Democrats, said the liberal Center for Responsive Politics, a group that tracks campaign spending and contributions.

Republicans must work hard to win support from a company whose employees seem philosophically wed to Democrats, CRP's Larry Noble said.

Google declined to discuss employee campaign contributions but the among the company's top 2004 givers was Chief Executive Officer Eric Schmidt, whose biggest single donation was $25,000 to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

I like Google and use it all the time, yet when I read this I was tempted to think of seeking alternatives.

To remove Google from Firefox go to Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\searchplugins and remove google.src and google.gif.

I now use Clusty.

Google is way over the top both in their donations and political search responses.

I haven't used Google for years. Now I know why.

Check out www.metacrawler.com. It's at least as good.

I like Google too, but will we be using it in 5 years?

I used to think Yahoo! was where it's at.

There are people out there who believe that the only way onto the www is via AOL.

You know, google has become almost a necessity, like a utility company or health care.

Maybe its time to nationalize it. As Democrats, the employees should approve.

A Freeper told months ago how they kept cancelling his Google ad that linked to a site that sold conservative bumper stickers and such. No such policy regarding the exact same merchandise of liberal persuasion, though.

Yahoo used to be good because from 2002-2004 it used googles search engine.
It switched to its own search engine in February 2004.

Many of these high-tech chiefs don't want to be percieved as geeks, even though they are. They see themselves as cutting-edge....so no conservatives here.
A very good friend works with the brother of the President of Google. Total geekazoid/dork. You could drag a corn dog past his cubicle and he jump on it. He prefers to keep old computers in use long after they ought to be dumped, just to save a buck.

metacrawler is apparently owned by Infospace. Check out the principals at:

http://www.infospaceinc.com/corpinfo/exec/

I checked a few of them at www.opensecrets.org and it looks like at least as many gave to Republicans as gave to RATs. They are apparently based in Bellvue, WA and I noted contributions to Jennifer Dunn, Bush, etc., as well as one board member from AOL who gave to Kerry. Too bad. He lost his money.

My problem is that Google does a really good job - which SUCKS.

Here in Texas, a Company from California, 21st Century Insurance, which doesn't seem to have much of a political agenda is about to clean the clock of Progressive (a company even more socialist than its name). I used 21st in CA when I lived there (a while back) and they were great.

I can't find a site at http://www.vivisiom.com/

The big advantage to me of google is their cache, so you can see sites when they are down and/or as they were a few days ago. I remember when the Saudi embassy for the first time put out a visa web page and it said, accurately, no Jews allows. They changed it, after a day or two of scandal, in order to hide their true policy, but you could still see the old page on google. I do not think any other search engine can match this because google has such an enormous bank of computers.

I don't normally worry about the politics of people I am paying for goods and services, so I certainly am not going to worry when I don't pay. How much money do you pay your dentist, and how many of them are Democrats?

Of Course Google gave overwhelimingly to democrats..

their corporate credo is "Do no Evil" and they clearly mark advertisers as separate from the unbiased hits..

only democratic pansies like google would have such a motto ...

use microsoft they will have an inferior product, and mingle in paid advertisers with objective results.

I don't have a problem with a company (or actor, musician, etc.)merely donating money to the democrats, which, as noted by a poster above, is perfectly legal and ethical. Once, however, they start spouting the far-left moonbat nonsense (Bush = Hitler, no blood for oil, etc.) I will actively avoid their product.
