Sterling, VA. (August 24, 2004) Heckler & Koch has been awarded a multi-year contract, with a potential value up to $26.2 million by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Office of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). It is intended to service all organizational elements/agencies under DHS. This contract ranks as the single largest handgun procurement ever by a U.S. law enforcement agency with a maximum quantity of 65,000 pistols.
The models selected after an exhaustive and punishing battery of testing were the USP Compact LEM, the P2000 and the P2000SK subcompact. Each of the three models was chosen in calibers 9x19mm, .40 S&W, and .357 SIG, and employ HKs innovative LEM trigger system.
The U.S. Office of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) were established as the largest investigative arm in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). ICE unites the functions, resources, and legal authorities of several previously separate border and security organizations into an integrated homeland security agency focused on investigations and enforcement. ICEs mission is to prevent terrorist and criminal acts by targeting the people, money, and materials that support terrorist and criminal networks.
This award confirms a significant commitment by the HK Defense Group to produce the most technically superior firearms in the world, without sacrificing flexibility and individual preference, said Wayne Weber, HK Defense Federal Operations Manager. The exhaustive testing protocol not only included one of the most rigorous battery of reliability, environmental, accuracy, and durability tests a handgun has ever been subjected to, but with the most powerful selection of cartridges within each of the three respective calibers. The HK pistols earned a Superior technical rating after more than three million rounds of ammunition were fired through 690 handguns of 46 different models from five different companies during four months of testing.

I understand different sizes for different uses, but why in the name of Ghod 3 calibers?
What are they gonna use the 9s for, rodent control in airports?
So9
why the extension on the barrel?
hmmm.....I guess this has nothing to do with a heckler and Mayor Koch
Are they publicly traded? What's the ticker symbol?
Flash hider
Quality, consistency, beauty, thy name is H&K.
This is good, but it makes me wonder why the FBI is now issuing Glocks to its agents.
I really liked the P7M8. How does that compare to the P2000 or P2000SK?
The G3 is the worst rifle ever made, bar none.
More likely a compensator.
Agree.......That fence post is taller than some of the troops we've trained.....:o)
amateurs...
Albeit.... I'm a big fan of the P9S in 45ACP.
LOL!!!

"Heckler and Koch"
It's a flash supressor.
thanks guys,,had idea that might have been it
Don't know
amateurs...
Exactly! I wonder what they did after lunch.
what is the most abundant ammo on the market today, seems like 38 Special use to be it
On the view from the front the attachment in question has a slot opening at the bottom (one among 4 symmetrical slots). Thus the attachment CANNOT be a compensator, for the compensator works by directing some gases UP, and not down, to compensate for muzzle rise. Muzzle brake it cannot be since it lacks the baffles to redirect the gases back; silencer it is not, either, for the lack of internal volume and baffle structure to dissipate and cool powder gases pressure surge. Thus the only remaining uses would be a balancing weight or a flash hider.
What, they only had one afternoon or something?
Me to, but what is the "innovative LEM trigger system"?
Well I've got to disagree, I've seen many worse rifles and yes I've fired several G-3s and yes I do love my H&K91 ..... USP45 .... USC .... SL-8 and wished HK would get back into the real civilian market and sell a civilian version of the XM-8.
Of note, there exists a distinct difference between M16 shooters and G3 guys.
And we will never see eye-to-eye.
HK lover here myself. Buy the best the first time and there is no need to retire it, ever.
Me too. Almost as much as my Sigs!
The LEM trigger is some sort of light double action system. Has a longer pull like a double action, but low poundage total.
I think they should've gone with Glock 32's in .357 Sig personally. 1/3 cheaper and just as reliable.
I am wondering why they got the contract? Is GLOCK still busy making handguns for the Iraqis? I take it Kimber couldn't produce 65,000? Colt?
It is ICE for heaven's sake, not the LAPD.
And why was this posted 8 months after the press release was issued?
My H&K USP .45 is the best hand gun I've ever fired. The only pistol I'd rate almost as high would be my Colt 1911 .45 but it's single action so that is a slight draw back.
They want the 9mm when they can't find any .357sig ammo and someone convinces them the .40 is not as accurate.
"Of note, there exists a distinct difference between M16 shooters and G3 guys.

Yeah, I guess us G3 guys never really cared for jams and extraction problems.
Would be really great and light years ahead, IF they reintroduced really slanted grip (like the one in Luger, or even more slanted, if the magazine would still feed) - it is so much more ergonomical, especially for single hand shooting.
I am sure it is for the midgets they hire who can't handle a .40
(hahahahaha)
HK is famous for the roller delay operating system developed by Mauser during WWII. It went with Mauser engineers to CETME in Spain, then back to germany with the G3.
Foreign arms is an old story. The US paid royalties to Mauser for the '03 Springfield. Before that the Krag Jorgenson rifle was also a foreign design. On the other hand, the Luger pistol and the Maxim Machinegun were invented by Americans.
My patent is for a folded roller delay blowback system. That lets you have a 24 inch barrel in a 28 inch rifle. No gas tube to kink like the M-16, no piston to foul like the FAL or MAG, and the roller delay mechanism is situated well away from the carbon fouling.
Patent 6,079,138
Probably to give them time to hire agents. As I recall there were 2 1/2 pistols per agent purchased. Your tax money at work.
Prolly just one guy and a wimp at that!
And us M16 guys never cared for black eyes.
I had an SWG (G3 clone) dressed up with the PSG-1 hardware.....sweeet! The hardware costs 3x more than the rifle did lol
They did that AT lunch.
OK, I'll respect that ..... I also like my AR-15A2 and the all the M-16A2s that I used. I didn't like the M-16A1 :(
:p Told you!
