The way to quickly shut them up is to offer them what they are asking for - in spades. Imagine the uproar if consumer protection laws were passed that required "real" journalists to obtain a "licensed professional journalist" certification before they could either call themselves journalists or perform the actions of a journalist or receive compensation for practicing the trade of journalism.
Of course there would have to be license qualification and renewal requirements that would be put in place, yearly license fees to be assessed, and journalistic malpractice standards that would need to enforced, maybe even windfall profits taxes for those Woodward and Bernstein types who manage to cash in on their fame. After all, there is a fake journalist crisis going on, and the public must be protected so that they know that they're getting the real thing. Just imagine how fast they would backpedal...
Let us at least have the minimum background checking for people who interact with the POTUS. Jeez....the WH press secretary should be raked over coals by Karen Hughes for allowing an alleged homo prostitute into WH press briefings.
As for Gannon, seems to me people often get a bit carried away with themselves, and think they can do things they probably really can't get away with..
Daneshkos Ratshervich and Walther Cronkinshitz.

E & P continues their downward spiral. The phrasing of this piece is so dramatic.
Sounds like good advice for the time being.

I hope he sues the living daylights out of 'em.
The sad thing here is that Gannon may have tried to turn a new leaf, and put all that stuff behind him. Isn't it ironic that the one gu who was openly and passionately pro-Bush in the White house press corp also turned out to be the least likely of types to be pro-Bush?
Whatever he did though, the fact remains that the leftwingers are trying to destoy him personally now. He already quit his job, but it wasn't enough for them. Maybe they'll be happy when he kills himself, although they may try to go after his parents then just for spite. Who knows.
I don't know anything about Gannon's activities, but I do know that if you have the crowd going after you that Gannon has, you would be foolish to not have an attorney.
Well said.
My focus has been how the left has used this to make baseless charges that Gannon was a WH plant, was the source of the Plame "leak", and so on.
Just peeked at the pics, if the pics from the porn sites are for real and the pics of the legimate jeff are for real, it's a match, it's the same guy.
We're all so moved by your deep concern.
This is a failed strategy.....or strategery!
It seems to me more telling than anything else that the MSM thinks its a big news story that a conservative actually gained access to the White House Press Corps, apparently an unprecedented event.
Thanks for your concern.
The lefty bloggers dissecting this story seem to think there's something there, and I fail to see it.
Anyway, I agree that this situation is of his own making, but I really wonder if the bloggers who are digging this crap up aren't leaving themselves open for some blowback (ekk! more back choices of words).
Someone earlier joked about a rumor that Gannon and Scott McClelland got "together". It isn't being treated as a rumor. Some comments on blogs I've read are treating it as fact. These people are complete filth.
The Plame link is tenuous.
Gannon did an interview with Joe Wilson at the end of October 2003. He asked Wilson about a purported memo that proved Plame had recommended her husband for the Niger trip (the point Novak made in his column and Wilson had denied--in fact denies to this day although the memo did surface and was exactly that).
The lefties have taken this question as proof that Gannon had access to this "secret" memo, however it seems clear that Gannon based the question on an article from the WSJ of October 17 that described it.
Then a list was published of reporters (it's a long list) the grand jury might call and Gannon is on the list.
He has not been called and told E & P the other day that the FBI spoke to him for about 90 minutes but he has not been subpoenaed.
Of course other reporter have been called. In fact today an appellate court unanimously upheld the contempt citations for two reporters. Judith Miller was one. The other is Matt Cooper who had been held in contempt last summer, then cut a deal and gave limited testimony. The grand jury wanted more and he fought it. I find that much more interesting than the weak Gannon link to the tale.
I quickly exited, remove the page from my history (so my wife won't start wondering about me) and showered in industrial strength metal cleaner.
Really? I mean, the pictures were distasteful and utterly uninteresting to me personally, but...wtf?
As for me, if my visiting one page with nekkid pictures of another guy made Missus Whiplash "wonder," I'd wonder about her. Now, if you had been visiting LOTS of pages like that...that'd seem weird.
But to freak out like that over a few pictures of some guy's winkie...that's just...pathological.
SW
No. To my knowledge, Gannon never showed evidence of knowing anything about Plame that hadn't previously been published somewhere else.
