The University of Oregon has canceled plans to have Ward Churchill, the University of Colorado professor under fire for calling victims of the 9-11 attacks "Little Eichmans," speak at an on-campus symposium.
Churchill was scheduled to give the keynote lunch address at a symposium titled "Homeland 'In'Security: Race, Immigration and Labor in Post-9/11 North America," a joint presentation of the University of Oregon's Wayne Morse Center for Law and Politics and the Center on Diversity and Community, the school's Oregon Daily Emerald reported.
According to the report, the directors of the program nixed plans for Churchill and his colleague, Natsu Taylor Saito, to speak at the symposium because they wanted the event to stay on topic.
"His topic was not the main focus of the conference," Morse Center Director Margaret Hallock told the paper. "It wasn't part of the original intent."
John Shuford, associate director of the Eugene, Ore., campus' Center on Diversity and Community, said security was also a concern, stating, "The joint presentation which was not centrally related to the conference would overshadow two days' worth of other presentations."
As WorldNetDaily reported, the national furor over Churchill stems from an essay he wrote titled "Some People Push Back: On the Justice of Roosting Chickens," written shortly after the Sept. 11 attacks. In it, he describes the thousands of American victims who died in the World Trade Center inferno as "little Eichmanns" (a reference to notorious Nazi war criminal Adolf Eichmann) who were perpetuating America's "mighty engine of profit." They were destroyed, he added, thanks to the "gallant sacrifices" of "combat teams" that successfully targeted the World Trade Center towers and the Pentagon.

Oh yeah!....he has the right to free speech, WE have the right to respond....LOUDLY: CHURCHILL IS A DORK. TAKE YOUR TRAVELLING MEDICINE SHOW ELSEWHERE!
yeah!! SOME PEOPLE DO PUSH BACK
But he was the scheduled keynote speaker, unless the author has his facts wrong.
(/massive sarcasm)
The University of Oregon is my alma mater (and Animal House was filmed there). I'm glad to see they're cancelling Churchill's appearance.
We should all be aware of this Prof also, from Univ of Texas:
The Anti-American Academy: Robert Jensen ( he says Ward Churchill is right about 9/11 )
fyi
Ward Mosquehill, sounds so much more appropriate for this Dunghillian, let's give him a name change.
Cool! Thanks for the head's up.

Roger that and welcome to Free Republic!
Me too, class of '62, liberal place even then. Welcome to FR .
This is good news indeed!
Dang, and in the People's Republic of Eugene, too.
I'm amazed and impressed.
Take a step back and breathe deep. Life is great and the klintoon stench has finally cleared!!
What's he gonna do with all this extra time on his hands?

Seriously.. I like the term Savage has for this guy.. the "cigar store indian"..
Savage's show is like a tirade of insanity with moments of pure gold interspersed throughout.

Not so fast. The Klintoon factor is just warming up. Any of you that take The Hildabeast lightly are such fools. This witch is gonna push & shove & lie & cheat & sell her soul for the WH & with the number of willing corrupt accomplises the pubbies better have their game face on & get prepared TODAY for what I see - a Dem victory at present. You are going to fight some of the pubbie elites that are going for her. The real reason I don't want her in is I want to show all of you that with a 8 plus at least 4 yrs of republican domination you won't have any excuse than to have a true conservative Supreme Court. If it isn't present then you all will know how you've been smoked over for decades by these elites.

I concur - Churchill is a venerable name and I hate that he uses it. Probably isn't even his real name..he is just a big eared old phony.
Ward is Ok (section of the hospital for the care of a group of patients) Mosque is great ...but how about Mosquehummock? (pronounced Mos' scum ick)
Hummock - small mound of dirt!!!!!!!!
Just a thought;)
I see my fears about WC corrupting our youth were unfounded.
He seems to spend all his time running around to "lectures" rather than spending any time lecturing in the classroom.
The trade-off theough is that he's is corrupting the minds of college administrators instead. Since they're alrweady The Lost anyway, it really isn't much damage.
That means efforts to get his rants cancelled may actually be counter-productive, since they leave him more time to actually spend with his "students".
Thanks.
Your opinion is that she will fool enough people, but I have faith that enough Americans will not be fooled and that she will never be elected to a national office.
I won't call you a fool, but I believe I'm right.
The real fools will be those who will support a RINO thinking that is what we need to beat Hillary.
With Hillary playing up to the right with some of her recent stances (Rush is right. She's not playing to the 'center'.) the GOP will lose for sure if they run to the center or left. I am not as convinced as you as to the brain power of the American people or of the integrity of the election system or even the will and backbone of the GOP to prevent fraud.
Welcome to Free Republic, Cathy. You did JUST FINE with your post!!
At the UNIVERSITY of OREGON? The land of Birkenstock originals and whole-grain bakeries?
Ward Churchill's street cred must really be dropping like a rock...let's keep it up.
Welcome to Free Republic.
bttt
Is his Wisconsin speech still alive?
yes, I believe it is...
Any FReeper Wisconsin alums please contact your alma mater to convince them to drop this engagement! Also, Wisconsin residents have a voice as well. Please use it! Thanks.
TC.....you did great, welcome to a portion of the New Media where you can participate and not just have to sit there and take it!
"Small mound of dirt."
Very fitting, if we visualize the small mound of dirt as being where a rabid cat covered up his excrement.
I think the same thing when I see Churchill (or others like him). Why is he trying so hard to look like a college student in the 60s? A lot of effort goes into manufacturing his appearance. If you read his speeches, book reviews, etc. you know for sure this guy stopped growing intellectually decades ago. Welcome to Free Reepublic!

HUH??
"University professors are a privileged elite that work between six to nine hours a week, eight months a year for an annual salary of about $150,000, according to David Horowitz...more"
LOL, then cry! I had a boss that did zero lab work, yet managed to scam NIH out of $200K per year. The postdocs literally did all the work, and we had weekly lab meetings so he could find out what happened! If he wasn't napping (literally!) on his office couch, he was day trading on the internet.
He was a master BS artist though, and could give you the poor mouth speech while callously taking a yearly $8K minimum automatic raise.
Tenure must be destroyed!
Before the late 60's, he's be ranting to the cell bars in a phyco ward.
Abolish tenure? Change the terms. Profs are pressured to publish. Most university profs are not the best educators nor are they truly dedicated to teaching. They lecture from prepared papers, and among many they often or always impose their political biases.
By whom and how, and by what criteria are these "honoured" citadels of high learning, I mean higher learning, rated?
Wayne Morse lived down the road from me back in the bad ol' days--having his name even remotely associated with this 'symposium' must have him rolling over in his grave.
University professors are a privileged elite that work between six to nine hours a week, eight months a year for an annual salary of about $150,000, according to David Horowitz..
I went into the CU course catalog about a week ago...the best that I could determine (and I may have missed some things), Churchill 'teaches' only on Thursday and on Thursday from around noon until around 7:30 in the evening. According to reports, his salary at CU is $94,000 ($104K when he was head of dept.) Either 3 or 4 classes total...think it was 4.
WC doesn't have a PhD...in my experience that's unusual. Virtually every prof I had when I went to university (grad 2001) was a PhD. In fact, most of the faculty in Churchill's dept. holds a PhD. As I recall, only a couple (besides WC) did not. I'm assuming that the higher degree commands a larger salary.
Okay, I have a suspicion Churchill may have blackmailed somebody/ies to get the positions he attained at UC. Interesting that he is in *SUCH* demand for the Lecture tours at other *academic* institutions like Berkley and Hamilton. Too peculiar...AND, how would we ever know in depth about Churchill if not for the NET?
