I was surfing the web looking for a text book on Barnes & Nobles website. The search was about Food and Culture in America. Instead, I got a link to this book: "How the Homosexuals Saved Civilization."
I am flabbergasted. I mean, doesn't this sound like a paradox? Or, is this out right propoganda? I mean what is the world coming to, then again, I think we have all been asking ourselves this question for a long, long time now.
A link to the book is above.
Un-be-lucking-fevable! I guess we're all that way. Who knew?

ABOUT THE BOOK
How the Homosexuals Saved Civilization: The True and Heroic Story of how Gay Men Shaped the Modern World
FROM THE PUBLISHER
A shrewd and irreverent cultural history of the customs, fashions, and figures of gay life in the twentieth and the early twenty-first centuries-and how they have changed all of us for the better.
The "global queering" of America has been gradually shaping the way straight people talk, think, dress, and eat. Over the past fifty years, the line between what is "straight" and what is "gay" has blurred to the point that most heterosexuals are unaware of the vast contributions gay men have made to American culture.
How the Homosexuals Saved Civilization presents a broad yet incisive look at how an unusual "immigrant" group, homosexual men, have become so influential on mainstream American culture.
The general public's tastes and consumer choices in food, fashion, humor, literature, and body image are becoming decidedly more gay. And America has shown a real interest in TV shows with gay content and themes, such as Queer Eye for the Straight Guy; Will & Grace; and Six Feet Under. Overall, it's hip to be gay, even if you're straight.
How the Homosexuals Saved Civilization tells us something about ourselves as a society. It celebrates the unique perspective of gay men and explains how essential their vitality has been to our civilization." -a review of the book.
That book sounds messed up. Just another attempt by the faggots to fool us into thinking they're already mainstream, just go ahead and accept it. I don't know about y'all, but I never watch that Queer Eye crap.
How else could you have kids???
Oops, didn't mean to excerpt that much. Sorry ya'll.
Well, me and most of the guys I know are confirmed lesbians.
Attila the Hun was running rampant! Honey, I mean he was just out of control! Then his hairdresser (a lovely fella) said "Atty boy! Darling! You would look so fabulous in chintz! It sounds like it wouldn't work, but trust me, it made all the difference! After that Attila became quite the fashion star and eventually he had a wardrobe bigger than Elton John's! Really! Anyhoo, he forgot all about destroying civilization and just went shopping all the time. I heard this from his doorman, so I know it's true. Really!

Queers can't procreate; they recruit. So how in the Sam Hill did these perverts save civilization?
I grew up with Flip Wilson in drag on the TV. I remember watching Jack Benny on TV, who added Jewish schtick. Who can forget Henny Youngman. Bill Cosby was my introduction to black culture. The McClellan saddle, standard of the Army during the Civil War and many western, was copied from a Cossack model.
US culture accepts all, and from it builds.
When Aids was epidemic, suddenly you couldn't find a good looking tie. Ties in my business soon became optional. Gay humor was always a caricature, and had merged with black humor. (really, is there a diffence between the over the top scolding given my a TV gay man and a TV black woman?)
I kind of like Melissa Etheridge too.
Well, I must admit that in the insane minds of the extreme to the point of falling off the flat earth they envision us living upon, left, this would be entirely logical. After all homosexuals do not reproduce themselves and they self destruct early in life-what better cure could there be for earth's problems in the sick minds of the crowd that blames every problem on earth on human activity?
In all fairness, our civilization would be the worse off without the contributions of Michelangelo, Walt Whitman, and Oscar Wilde, just to name a few.
In the best possible American society, it would be understood that many promiment people in the arts and fashion industry don't get married because, well, you know, their first love is their work. And if they have a roommate of the same gender, well, the polite gentleman or lady does not ask too many questions. It would be left at that.
The gay activists try to set it up so that society's only choices are:
1. Teaching about homosexuality to kindergarteners.
2. Hauling off the gays to the gas chambers.
We can acknowledge the contributions of gay people without presenting homosexuality as the ideal way for people to lead their lives. We can also allow people some privacy.
As a straight amateur playwright, I will be the first to say that a lot of the best plays have been written by gay people. And if you ever see a play in any big city, there's about a 90 percent chance that gay people made a major contribution to the performance in some way.
In all fairness, our civilization would be the worse off without the contributions of Michelangelo, Walt Whitman, and Oscar Wilde, just to name a few.
Thag is reminded of the old joke:
A Greek and an Italian are discussing culture and civilization over a glass of wine.
Greek: We invented philosophy.
Italian: We perfected it.
Greek: We invented democracy.
Italian: We perfected it.
Greek: We invented sex.
Italian: We introduced it to women.
If you want on/off the ping list see my profile page.
It's HIP to be gay? Is this what we've come to? Oh Help!!!!!!!
"...Gay food? You bet. In 1956, the gay epicure James Beard introduced the straight American male to the joys of barbecuing.... Not terribly deep but entertaining nonetheless."-Jeff Ingram, Newport
This book doesn't surprise me look at the whole "Left Behind" series
LOL!

Precisely. And you can bet that this book will most likely end up on the recommended reading lists for public school kids.

How about just: "As an amateur playwright" -homosexuality only fits into the equation if one seeks to downplay or promote homosexuality.
You missed Adolph Hitler in your moral relative exercise.
I prefer to just respect individual dignity which is different from individual actions... A person should always respect another's dignity EVEN while legitimately condemning and opposing a disordered activity...
Witness the Democratic Party still clinging to the false notion of being the party of the people.
Okay, so what was the book about? Titles are meant to be provocative, but sometimes the book's innards tell a different story.
You have a point. But on FR, a few people have been known to question the orientation of anyone who doesn't bash gays. Thus, I thought I would pre-empt that accusation.
I am not a moral relativist. However, part of western morality is a respect for other people's privacy.
Homosexuals committed to "diversity" ought to look up and celebrate famous "straights" in the arts, rather than ignoring them or trying to prove that they are gay. Maybe the unwillingness to do so means that homosexuals are human, and therefore subject to the imperialism and nationalism, chauvinism and bigotry that all groups have. But it does seem like a losing strategy for a minority to keep proclaiming how wonderful they think they are and how benighted the rest of us are.
Privacy -what a concept... Homosexuals are only differentiated by sexual attraction and or activity. Hence, homosexual activists turn what should be privacy on its head to pursue an agenda that would not be possible were privacy maintained.
P. S. I agree that homosexual bashing is counter productive...
They may not have saved civilization, but they do decorate nicely, LOLOL

Agreed.
Why havn't these Delusional ranting author's been captured and put back into their rubber rooms???
I heard 40 years ago, when I was in college, that theater was a closed shop. Either you were gay, or you were gay-friendly. Real friendly.
That true?
How long would you last in theater if your sentiments posted above became known?
<< In all fairness, our civilization would be the worse off without the contributions of Michelangelo, Walt Whitman, and Oscar Wilde, just to name a few. >>
Not one of whom -- neither assuming nor debating he was a sodomist -- proffered his queerness as in any way relevant to his contribution.
And nor was it.
"How long would you last in theater if your sentiments posted above became known?"
As I wrote, I consider people's sexuality to be their own business. Since I try to treat everyone based on their character, I haven't had any problems.
That said, I have found it necessary to censor my plays somewhat. If you tried to write a play openly and brazenly espousing conservative ideals, it would be difficult. The problem is that playwriting is a collaborative effort. You need good playwrights to review your stuff and good actors and directors to do readings. If all you get is hostility, you're just not going to get good collaboration. The product will probably be lousy.
But then again, a lot of very good literature has been written in regimes that censor works. Writers have to learn how to be subtle.
Think of it this way: it would be impossible right now in Hollywood to make a movie that praised the life of Ronald Reagan. But movies with conservative themes like "Forrest Gump" and "A Walk to Remember" do get made. The key is subtlety.
