Republican Corrects the Record on Judicial Nominees

(CNSNews.com) - Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) had some "interesting, if inaccurate" things to say about President Bush's judicial nominees on Tuesday, a Republican Senate staffer said.

In an exchange with reporters, Reid was asked whether Democrats have decided to oppose the men and women President Bush re-nominated for federal judgeships on Monday.

"Re-nomination is not the key," Reid responded. "I think the question is those judges that have already been turned down in the Senate. And unless there's something that is new that I'm not aware of with each of these men and women, we will vote the same way we did in the past."

But Reid is wrong, said Don Stewart, the communications director for Sen. John Cornyn (R-Tex.).

"None of President Bush's judicial nominees has 'been turned down in the Senate,'" Stewart noted. "The nominees Reid referred to were denied a vote altogether -- despite the fact that they all had (and have) bipartisan majority support."

Sen. Cornyn and other Republicans have said that all Bush's nominees would be confirmed -- if Democrats would just allow an up-or-down vote by the full Senate.

"It's a little difficult to 'turn down' a nominee if he or she never gets an up-or-down vote on the Senate floor," Stewart said in a press release.

According to a transcript provided by Cornyn's office, Sen. Reid also mentioned Republican obstruction of Clinton nominees, singling out Judge Richard Paez. "But there's just one problem," Stewart said: "Richard Paez was confirmed by the Senate; he had an up-or-down vote and is now a sitting judge."

He isn't.

It's just point one from the dems play book: "Lie like hell. the stupid public won't know any better."

and they're still going on the old paradigm - the MSM wont tell anyone any different, so no one will call 'em on it.

Sen. Reid also mentioned Republican obstruction of Clinton nominees, singling out Judge Richard Paez.

There is one huge difference between what Republicans did to clinton appointees and what democrats are doing to Bush appointees. The republics rightfully exercised their democratically appointed majority rights to deny confirmation in committee. Nothing wrong with that. The voting public gave them that moral and ethical right. What the democrats are doing is exploiting filibuster rules to un-democratically impose minority control over majority rights. This is not a right that was ever granted to the democrats by the voting public. Never before had this been done in the context of judicial appointments. There is no comparison between what Republicans did under clinton to what democrats are doing under Bush.

Reid: "And unless there's something that is new that I'm not aware of with each of these men and women, we will vote the same way we did in the past."

Besides the fact that they weren't voted on by the Senate, Reid also fails to realize that something "new" has happened: They lost the election...including their Majority Obstructionist. Harry's wrong all the way around.

Flat-out lie from Reid! In the days of old media he would get away with it. Why didn't the reporter(s) call him on this, that these nominees have never faced an up/down vote?

More total lies by obstructionist Democrats, and the MSM just keeps on swallowing the lies unquestioned.

He's not stupid. He knows damn well that his friends who run the MSM will never call him on his lies. He's free to to tell any lie he wants and the majority of people will never know the difference. As to the people who know he's lying, he simply does not care what you think about him.

Reid also said that no Judge EVER has been elected with less than 60 votes.

Reid is a consumate liar. With liberals the truth doesn't matter, it's just how much can you fool the public. With the liberal media behind them, the democrats figure they can fool the public often.

And .. even if "they vote the same way" - it won't do them any good - they don't have enough votes to keep these people out of their appointed judgeships.
