The Simpsons is not a kids show and never has been. The idea that animation is automatically for kids is deeply misinformed.

They also did an episode where Homer thought Bart was turning gay, he took Bart to a steel mill, and of course it turned out that it was a gay steel mill.

When Xena's Guy took a tech support job at a local steel company, I took great pleasure in reminding him that the whole steel industry is gay.

Ok, so he'll be a conflicted clown who joins the priesthood and molests Bart while performing a circumcision.

That better?

If you haven't watched "in years", how do you know what their "talking points" are?

OK, you got me. I still check in with the show once in a while, when I'm sitting around on a Sunday evening feeling lazy. I have yet to make it through an entire episode though, in the last couple of years, because the show is rarely funny anymore, and often inserts statements that don't even seem to be an attempt at humor.

btw, who made you the arbiter of what is or isn't conservative? I would like to see a copy of your check list if you do not mind so I can rate myself.

I'm not trying to be the arbiter of what is conservative - that's my whole point. I have my own approach to promoting conservatism, and other people here have theirs. To some, it is very much worth the effort to write to broadcasters to express disapproval about stuff like this. As long as their overall goals and efforts are in line with mine, I say more power to them. I'm not going to tell other people that their method of expressing and promoting their conservative beliefs is wrong (as long as it is not actually inadvertently working against conservatism). Yet I constantly see, on this site, people trying to dissuade others from doing these types of things, even though these types of things are the very spirit of conservative activism.

And I'll save you the trouble of going through my checklist, I've already gone through it and you have a conservative rating of 12-Bravo.

This is my favorite type of post at FR. Someone complaining about virtures, etc., on TV...using words like "CRAP". A wonderful example of conservative discourse.

I can't use the word "crap" and still be conservative? Geez, there goes half my vocabulary.

And the show has always had an anti-religious bent, consistent with Groening's "Life in Hell" comic strips.

Nonsense, the show is one of the most pro-Christian shows around. Ned Flanders is one of the most sympathetic characters on the show who, unlike Homer and most of the other characters, always tries to do the right thing.

Nothing, it is just ironic when it comes from the same people who are telling me what I can watch on TV. I have no problem with the word crap....just with holier than thou people.

I am in agreement with your comments....'King of the Hill' is great, I get it in rerun several times a day here, and try to make sure I watch it as well as always watching the new episodes....its always entertaining, always makes me laugh...I like the way the station plugs it as 'Animation Gone Awry'...A day without Hank, Peggy, Bobby, Luanne, Dale, Nancy, Joseph, John Redcorn, Bill, Boomhaur, Khan, and Connie(or Kahn Junior as her dad calls her), and the colonel, and his new wife and baby(did I forget anyone), just would not be a fun happy day for TV viewing....

I never did watch 'The Simpsons' when it first came on, and regret that...Now I have to watch it in rerun, which I also get several times a day, and of course watch the new episodes...it is just so funny...and they poke fun at everybody...no one seems to be immune from the barbs, which to my way of thinking is good...

Personally few comedies on TV make me laugh...I just find them lame and boring, not funny at all...which makes me more of a detective-lawyer-mystery type of TV viewer...

Thus, being a grown up, I dont get outraged about some TV program I dont like...I change the channel...

King of the Hill, The Simpsons, and Seinfeld, are three comedies that make me laugh no matter how many times I see the same episode...have to temper all my heavy TV viewing of detectives, and lawyers, and mystery murders, with a few good laughs from my favorites comedy shows...

I just don't tell others that certain TV is inappropriate....and at the same time use vulgarities in the same sentence.

I have no problem with the word crap or the Simpsons. I am just pointing out that you are willing to tell me what to watch, but upset when someone tells you what words are appropriate.

Wow - you really won't let this go, will you? You replied to the same exact post twice because once wasn't enough.

Let me straighten you out on something: I never told anybody what they could watch, nor did I get upset when you said I can't use the word crap. I think you're inventing an entire reality here. Read the thread again. It begins with someone (other than me) calling for a letter/email writing campaign against what she thinks is offensive subject matter on a TV show. Then we get a bunch of people flaming her, saying things along the lines of how ridiculous it is to object to the show. Then we have me defending her sentiments, but SPECIFICALLY NOT AGREEING with the choice of the Simpsons as a battleground, and somewhere in there, using the word "crap", which has subsequently sent you on a rocket ride into an alternate reality. Never, anywhere, did I demand that people stop watching the Simpsons, and my first reply to your "crap" objection was an obvious joke, indicating a severe lack of being upset.

Do not assign words and sentiments to people that they did not express just so you can bash them. If you are going to insist on doing that, do so in a manner which at least appears rational. Thank you.

I guess it was 1988, or so, when this stupid program first started, and I did NOT like it. I tired to watch it at first. BUT, the utter joke of a family, and the disrespect the kids showed, turned me off. THEN--- I think it was'90, or so, there was an episode, where Bart wanted to be in a skateboard race,or jump, or something, and Homer, his father, didn't approve. Bart said he would do it anyway, and "dad,. you can't stop me". Homer's response: NOT, grab Bart by the arm, and say, "oh yeah", or something, like that. NO-- Homers response to his sons backtalk and disobedience--HOMER SAT DOWN AT THE KITCHEN TABLE, AND STARTED CRYING, CAUSE HIS SON WOULD NOT MIND HIM!!!. That was it, for me ,and the Simpsons. For many years, I have been told"lighten up", or,"it's only a cartoon", and "don't be so serious" NOW... we have homesexuals aganda in this, and other, cartoons. At the same time, the Homesexuals are now bringing their fight against Christians, TO THE CHURCH DOORSTEP., staging their "marches", on church property, trying to force Christians to totally accept their pagan, satanic lifestyle.

Sure, most of you will probably still think, "no problem", it's just a cartoon", and think I am nuts. But, you should know, this is all part of the plan, to get children to accept, at an early age, that Homosexuality, is normal, and that the Christians, are the "Strange", and "twisted" ones.

I thought that was CABF08.

To my mind, it lampooned the proponents of gay marriage as being a bunch of people who want to make a quick buck while mocking the American family. While the humor may not have been as good as on some episodes, I had no problem with its political bent.
