Rep. Slaughter Demands Answer: Why was Jeff Gannon in the WH Before Talon News Even Existed?

Slaughter to White House - "Stop the Stonewalling!"

Washington, DC - During the February 10 White House briefing, Press Secretary Scott McClellan stated that Jeff Gannon, "...like anyone else, showed that he was representing a news organization that published regularly" in order to receive his day pass to press briefings. It has been confirmed that Jeff Gannon was in the White House briefing room, actively participating in these briefings, as early as February 28, 2003 a full month before Talon News even existed.

Rep. Louise M. Slaughter (NY-28), Ranking Member of the House Committee on Rules, who has lead the call for answers in this matter, today called on the White House to explain their relationship with the discredited "reporter" once and for all.

"It has been a week since I wrote President Bush seeking answers in this matter. I have not yet received a reply. With each new revelation it becomes more and more clear that the relationship between the White House and Jeff Gannon was anything but typical," said Slaughter. "It is time for this Administration to stop the stonewalling and come clean with the American people," she added.

I think she's taking her biography too seriously.

"One of the most powerful women in the U.S. House of Representatives, Congresswoman Louise McIntosh Slaughter has achieved a significant level of leadership as the second ranking Democrat on the influential House Rules Committee and as the Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Legislative and Budget Process. In 2003, she was chosen to serve on the newly created Select Committee on Homeland Security, serving as the Ranking Member on the Subcommittee on Rules and sitting on the Subcommittee on Infrastructure and Border Security. She is the Democratic Chair of three very prominent congressional caucuses: the Arts, Women’s, and Pro-Choice Caucuses."

Doesn't the WH have autonomy over their Press Briefings and attendance?

So why are Congresspeople whining?

Jealous? No, but she sounds "excited" by all this gay talk. LOL!

She wants more, more!

I'm starting to see a pattern here, remember how the left just loves those prison orgy pictures in Iraq? They can't stop talking about sex.

Last time I checked, the Executive (WH) is coequal. I don't know what business it is of congress who is in the press briefings.

Am I missing something?

Because they were bombarded by DU e-mails to take this up. Who do you think Boxer got to vote against Bush certification and Condi?? The DUers protested outside her office and blasted e-mails to her until she broke down. They find a weak minded Rep. or Senator and they use their own version of Chinese water torture to get them to take up their stupid obsessions. These Senators and Reps become lackys to the DUers. If they are good - they get flowers if they are bad they get hate mail.

It would be a dead horse if the White House admitted he was a propaganda piece just like all those other paid-off journalists and moved on. Unfortunately, they're still trying to play damage control.

I don't either. If it is, then the WH should ask about the circuses, disguised as official proceedings, that Conyers seems to be leading in the House. I have seen him involved in two, one on the 2004 election and more recently one on proposed tort reform. Both were shown on CSpan.

Leftist sex is like fast food, sure it's easy and cheap, but it just satisfies the craving for a short time.

Conservative sex is more like a gourmet meal - afterwords you're fulfilled through and through.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Mr. Gannon shows up as an "Arkancide" in the very near future.

"The two most important rules in Washington; D.C. are:
Rule One: -"The cover-up is worse than the event."
Rule Two: "No one ever remembers the first rule."

My guess is that the Congress people are getting involved in the Gannon story because they think that they can tie him to the Valerie Plame investigation and force a separate investigation that would circumvent the current investigation which is stalled due to the appeal of the NYT reporters who are refusing to testify. The Daily KOS people think that they can tie Gannon to Rove through Eberle and that it their whole motive, to take down Rove.

If I was in the WH press dept I would give out a statement like this:

"If Helen Thomas can stain the halls of the White House offering obvious politically motivated hit pieces based on slanted questions then we are well within our right to grant any journalist who is more aligned with the White House's policies. Balancing the press corp is a service to the American people so kiss our collective arse."

I was trying to look up Gannon's bio on Google and came up with this little gem (Warning: DU Clone)...a couple of my favorites:

The masons sent "Gannon" to the briefing room that day for a good reason. They want "blogers" to be outlawed because it is the only aspect of th eMass Media that they canno get total control over.

Bush had many gay experiences and just because he is sitting on the Throne in the Oval Office does not mean he stopped

ROTFLMAO!!!!

An archived copy of Gannon's bio can be found here. Not much there though...

Jeff lives on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC and covers the White House for Talon News. He writes a syndicated column, "Jeff Gannon's Washington," that appears on his website: www.jeffgannon.com.

He is a frequent guest on talk radio appearing on nationally syndicated and local shows.

Jeff is a graduate of the Pennsylvania State University System and holds a Bachelor of Science in Education. He is also a graduate of the Leadership Institute Broadcast School of Journalism.

The converation at this site reads like the Kevin Bacon game.

Now if you will excuse me, I must go wash the raw sewage off of me from visiting those sites...the things I do for FR : )

If I had the opportunity to advise Mr. Gannon regarding this issue, I'd give him the trite, but nonetheless true, advice about lemons and lemonade.

Mr. Gannon should view this unfortunate incident as an opportunity that he must accept if he is to prosper, because future opportunities may be few and far between.

Write a book, Mr. Gannon. Tell all.

If the allegations of prostitution are true, then reveal everything. Tell how you got involved in that business and why you got out of it. If you had prominent clients, reveal their names. The royalties from the book will quickly make you richer than most of them. This lurid aspect of the tale will rush the book toward the top of the bestseller list.

Tell how you wound up working for Talon News. Explain how that organization works, who is involved with it and what you feel you accomplished there.

If you had access to classified information regarding the Plame matter, reveal how you got it. Naming names will make you rich.

Reveal how you secured passes to White House briefings when Maureen Dowd was too stupid to manage it.

I know for a fact, Mr. Gannon, that you are qualified to write a gripping book without the need for a ghost writer. But you must do it quickly.

Start leaking that a book is forthcoming. As you work on the book, gradually reveal that you will name names about this or that incident. Keep public interest high. Try to finish writing in about a month.

This story has just the right combination of sex and politics to make it a "must read" for many.

If you take advantage of this opportunity, you open the door to the possibility of journalistic future as a respected, feared and credible reporter.

It's a once in a lifetime opportunity. Tell the whole truth. Let the chips fall where they may.

Of course, I should get an autographed copy for suggesting it.
