This week Move America Forward conducted a "Support the Troops" candlelight vigil across from the home of Steve & Virginia Pearcy.
The Pearcy's you will recall hanged a U.S. soldier in effigy - from a noose with an American flag balled up in the soldier's helmet - above the Iraqi flag of Saddam Hussein as part of their anti-war protest. In the adjacent window they hanged the Palestinian flag.
Despite pouring rain for most of the three hour vigil, several hundred people from northern California turned out to show that Free Speech works both ways - the Pearcy's do not own a monopoly on it, and free speech includes the right to oppose offensive displays that undermine the brave men and women of our Armed Forces.
We owe a debt of gratitude to Mark Williams of KFBK 1530 - Sacramento and Deborah Johns of Northern California Marine Moms for helping Move America Forward make this event a success.
I hope you enjoy the pictures from the "Support The Troops Candlelight Vigil" - Tuesday, February 15, 2005 from 7:00 - 10:00 PM Pacific.

Absolutely awesome! I hope this took place between midnight and 0300.
Semper Fidelis! And a hearty woo hoo! :)
*ping*
You & I both. Funny how the first amendment cuts both ways, isn't it?
*ping 2*
BTW, that was just wishful thinking on my part. I did see that it was an evening event, I'm sure out of respect for the decent neighbors.
The news of the American soldier hanged in effigy in front of an Iraqi flag made it to our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. How do you think that made them feel while they are defending our freedoms?
Thankfully, hundreds of people braved the rain and storm to get out there and show their support for our troops and the war on terrorism. They stood up to the stupid people that put up the display.
I am sure that word will travel just as fast through the men and women in Iraq. They will know that the vast majority of Americans are behind them.
Having a few hundred people protest outside my house would tend to freak me out.
*ping 3*
Wonderful!..I am so glad this was a great success..Thank you for doing this and pinging me to the pictures.
With you being a Falls Churcher, I'm surprised that didn't happen when you put the Bush/Cheney sign on the roof!
The neighbors have been disgusted by the Pearcy's - not just for their offensive views but their rude neighborly conduct.
Neighbors from up and down the block were at the vigil and we had several offer to let us use their house to stage the event. So we based ourselves in front of a house directly across the street after asking the residents if it was OK.
The family had the American flag displayed on their house and not only were they accomodating they joined us throughout the evening as did most of the other neighbors in the immediate area.
We are still cleaning up the candlewax from their sidewalk, however! *feels ashamed*
DU Dummies are organizing phone operatives to call Dish Net and any other network that carry the new DOD military channel specifically designed to give military families news and info on their guys and gals.
DU nutwads are calling and lodging complaints that it is government propaganda.
Thank you for the ping! That is very cool. Good work to all those who participated. God bless them all!
*let the pings continue*
I saw footage of an opposing demonstration outside the Pearcy's home over the effigy, and the Pearcy's eventually emerged to speak with the press. Both have that vacant, faux "inner peace" look in their eyes...the kind of look you see when looking at someone who is sold over to some crackpot cult. The Pearcy's are not just leftists, not just weirdos -- they're scary.
Good work
Those three girls were at the vigil too! We got them on the Mark William's show as one of the "reports from the vigil." They were very sweet, very pretty and very disgusted with the Pearcy's!
Their disgust is shared by many. I wonder if there's something in the water in Sacramento...First there was Michael Newdow, and now this Pearcy couple. The whole lot of them are detestible.
Thanks for the pic's.
Hope they get a freeping every night of the week :)
BTTT
Saddam's flag and the Palestinian flag still hang in the front windows, but there is no U.S. soldier hanged in effigy from their house any more!
I heard most of Melanie's live updates to Brian Sussman on his show, and in the background you could hear the rants of the opposition demonstrators trying to drown out Mel's peaceful group.
Thanks Impeach98 for the pictures and the ping.
You rock!!!
You can only see the back of my head in this picture
Was it just coincidence that the 'Pearcys' didn't show themselves to the major media until the day of the Capitol Vigil? first I had seen of them was on the local late evening news.
Bless you folks for being there and Thanks from all of us!
Also want to wish a Great Time in Hawaii to Melanie Morgan Hill from KSFO,, a Lead Instigator and Long-Time RabbleRouser for the Right. Just Tan, Baby, Tan.
At first around 5:30 or so a few of us arrived. The media was already there, and there were already a few anti-war protestors in the neighborhood. There were quite a few police cars there as well.
We spoke to the family across from the Pearcy's about using their sidewalk and adjacent area - they let us use more (we had spoken to them the day prior and they were very supportive).
We stood in the pouring rain with our "Support the Troops" banner and soon the crowd grew - including Freeper Clamper and his American flag.
I know at 6:00 PM we had 2 dozen or so people because we were the big news story on the local stations and one of the crews was covering us and we were singing "God Bless America" :)
The reporter made a point that 2 dozen people in the pouring rain an hour before the vigil even began.
More people came - and more anti war people. From there you heard Melanie's reports. After she left things continued on - taunts from the anti-war folks with occassional replies of "You Should Be Ashamed" and "USA USA USA" the singing of the national anthem, the Marine Corps Hymn etc...
By the final hour it was much more tame. Neighbors down the street had complained about the noise and the police asked everyone to be more quiet. We complied, the lefties still were trying to provoke an incident. One of their guys was arrested for public drunkeness!!!
Let me know if another event is going to happen.
I will be proud to stand with you.
Cheers,
knews hound
The Pearcy's absolutely have the right to be jack-brained neosocialist traitors aligned with Muslim terrorists.
And we have the right to let the world know that about them.
you forgot "pillow biters" :o)
I'm of the opinion that these creeps have lost the right to be protected by our military.
They should be put on an unprotected island.
And whatever happens to them, happens.
Pillow-biting tumblebunnies. :o)
It was funny ... the drunk kept yelling something unintelligable ... we kept yelling at him ... have another drink ... have another drink ...
You bet brother
Gosh! I feel like a bodaggit. IDIOT!
That picture of the soldier hanging hurt to see.
I did hear the "have another drink" chants but wasn't sure what it was in reference to until later when I was told they had arrested one of the lovely lefties.
I hope someone can forward these awesome pictures to the troops.
There were a couple other FReepers there too - I know clamper spoke to them. Just goes to show some more of the great work FReepers do on a daily basis.
Apparently I had three separate interviews broadcast on channel 2,3 and 10. The video of me walking with the flag was on Hannity and colmes ... I was wearing movie star sunglasses around the house ... until my wife made me take them off ;<) All in all ... I guess I used up my 15 minutes of fame
FORMER newbie 3rdcanyon was their with syncro ... 3rdcanyon got a field promotion that night ... that's why he's a 'former" newbie
Wow !......Awesome !
Thank goodness nobody left cookies on the porch !......:o)
