GANNON: ...I have made mistakes in my past. And these are all of a very personal and private nature that have been -- that have been all brought to the surface by people who disagreed with the question I asked at the presidential press conference several weeks ago. And is -- the effect of this has been that we seem to have established a new standard for journalists in this country, where if someone disagrees with you, then your personal life, your private life, and anything you have ever done in the past is going to be brought up for public inspection.
COOPER: ...You had previously stated that you had registered a number of pornographic Web sites for a private client. That's what you had said publicly. You said the sites were never activated. A man now has talked to "The Washington Post," who said that you had essentially paid him to create some Web sites for an escort service, and you are yourself offering yourself as an escort.
GANNON: Well, like I said, there's a lot of things being said about me out there. A lot of things that have nothing to do with the reporting I have done for the last two years.
COOPER: Your critics bring up your past, that whether or not you did work as an escort as going to your credibility, that you know, should somebody who perhaps was working as an escort was getting access to the White House and being passed along through the Secret Service. Was your employer aware of your past activities?
GANNON: My employer was never at any time aware of anything in my past beyond the writings I did.

However, in the article:
I caught this:
"It is the policy of The Associated Press not to publish names of alleged sexual assault victims without their consent."
AP will publish the 'alleged' accused's name.
AP will shield (not publish) the "alleged" accuser's name.
Interesting, no?
And in the transcript, of Cooper interviewing Gannon, there is now an added spin: an "added" anonymous "voice" who has reported saying something negative about Mr. Gannon which is being repeated via Cooper's show to whomever is watching the show.
Would it be too much to ask Mr. Cooper to SAY whom this "anonymous" voice is? Or would that be in violation of fairness? Hmmm?
They think this is the tipping point to bring Bush down.
The MSM is not going to give this story any legs because they know, if they do, that high beam spotlight of scrutiny will be pointed at them. The Bush administration hopefully will be looking into all the past daily press passes handed out.
New?
Neppers. Old, but selectively applied, by both sides.
Let it be de rigueur.
Examine the examiners.
What I like is Maureen Dowd having her undies in a twist. And the best part of her trashing of "Jeff Gannon" seems to be that he's gay. Of course Dowd would never let anyone hint at someone's homosexuality as some sort of criticism, unless of course it was a way (in her mind at least) of tarnishing the President. Nobody cares about this story and it will have no lasting value. Yawn.
For years I read The Dowdy One.
But the nosedive of the Democrats has made her either a victim of said nosedive or contributor to it, or both.
And now she is what I never thought she could EVER be:
A yawn.
My thoughts on Bill Cosby is that he was/is a victim of the Left, much like Larry Summers and Jeff Gannon. It's just another case of the left eating their own. Summers was a Clintonista! Cosby, a long standing Democrat, spoke out about the Blacks taking responsibility for themselves and their kids, and Jeff Gannon/Guckert is a former practicing Gay that tried to change his life and became a conservative internet reporter.
The Democrat party is splintering, and they don't yet see what is happening. Howard Dean cries about Republicans tieing Lynne Stewart to the DNC, when they are inextricably tied through MoveOn.Org and the National Lawyer's Guild. All the while, Hillary tries to move to the middle. And the Gays and homophobes join to attack one of their own for straying from the Democrat party and becoming, of all things, a Republican.
FR is defending Gannon and celebrating "Black History" month. JimRob turns the other cheek for anyone who cares to slap. We've become who we think we aren't. What a world.
We'll still a long way off from there
You are right; there's nothing new in the Democrat handbook of tactics and strategy.
oh my... :)
I seem to remember a thread yesterday calling for a Freep in defense of "Gannon."
And nearly everybody on the thread was AGAINST the idea.
Buy opening up on Gannon, they are asking, requiring the Whitehouse to do extensive background checks into the most salacious details of each reporter in attendance. "What?" Thats a winning strategy of people who accuse the Whitehouse of all sorts of nefarious schemes. There are very very few Jeff Gannons in the Whitehouse press corps, this is why one kind question got this guy in the cross hairs. The room is TARGET RICH of unabashed lefties that are vulnerable to the exact same treatment. And they are using their what would be something they would defend for one of their own as and example of what should disqualify a reporter. Its too insane.
They say driving this is the hope that the Whitehouse planted Gannon there to ask softball questions, but you would think if the Whitehouse was going to concoct a plant, they would plant someone who could both stir the pot and get airtime doing it. That certainly doesn't describe Gannon.
I want the the conservative side the Blogosphere to nominate and support several bloggers into the Whitehouse Press corps. This will be the fun part. The blogosphere is a hydra, cut one head and two need to grow back. It will be nice to get some more reliable sources in Whitehouse, just imagine what this would mean in the off chance that the Dems ever make it back into the Whitehouse.
Guckert was (still is) a Freeper you know.
