Paul Johnston of Middletown, Delaware is one ticked-off parent. And with good reason. As the Middletown Transcript reports, Johnston's daughter -- a student at Louis L. Redding Middle School -- came home from school last week with a propaganda booklet and magazine from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). The PETA materials, it turns out, were part of the official classroom teaching. "I thought it was totally inappropriate for something like this to even be thought of being in the curriculum," Johnston told a reporter. We couldn't agree more. The Center for Consumer Freedom has written to Dr. Sue Dutton (the principal of the young Johnston girl's school), along with the members of the local school board, asking them to reconsider putting their stamp of approval on PETA propaganda. A sampling from our letter:
The debate shouldn't be about whether animal welfare is a valuable thing to teach. No one, after all, wants to endorse cruelty to animals. But it's equally irresponsible to lend a school's imprimatur to the teachings of a group that values lab rats over human children, believes giving milk to kids constitutes "child abuse," actively recruits an "army of animal rights rebels" in and around schools, encourages children to regard their non-vegetarian parents as "murderers," and has even funded the operations of arsonists and other violent felons. Administrators in Mr. Johnston's school district will also receive copies of "Your Kids, PETA's Pawns," the Center for Consumer Freedom's report detailing PETA's plan to indoctrinate millions of American children behind their parents' backs. Skeptical? PETA activists appeared outside a Wisconsin middle school at 7:30 this morning, handing anti-chicken trading cards to young kids as they walked to school.
Parents: If your child brings home animal-rights propaganda materials (often masquerading as "humane education" booklets), drop us a note and tell us your story. We'll be happy to educate your school administrators.
Teachers and other education professionals: Printed copies of "Your Kids, PETA's Pawns" are available to you free of charge. Just let us know where to send them.
I dunno...since they don't consider the life of a human being more important than that of a deer, we can run 'em over in the street and turn it in to our insurance like we do with deer damage...no charges filed. Sounds good to me.
The left and the MSM would be braying like mules if anyone dared pass out NRA material in a school. But for this one, you got have a few irate parents. I Classify PETA in the same category as the White Supremacists, the KLAN, and the Communist Party USA.
BTW I think BS with Penn and Teller is a Showtime production.
I read about those incidents. The rest of what you said I totally concur.
All I can say is: home school or private school. Public schools are cesspools of liberalness and incompetency.
You're obviously new at this and have no idea how closely related these groups are. They even have the same founders. Go to activist cash to start. Most of the research has been done for you and is public knowledge. Then do a bit more.
WE have been trying to get the truth to the public for years. Unfortunately, every few months, there are people like yourself who seem to have missed all of it and demand we make our case over and over, ad nauseum. Not flaming you in particular, this is a peeve in general.
LOL!!!!
Oh, you're one of those evil people who are threatening our virgin forests with your arboreal Frankensteins!! Shame on you!
Good luck and good harvest, too :- )
Doesn't anyone out there teach the difference between "you're" and "your?????!!!!!!"
You raise some interesting points, however, PETA has other goals that most thinking people find repugnant; such as banning the keeping of pets and abolishing the right of people to eat what they want (meat).
Are you talking about allowing convicts to volunteer for reasearch, or sentencing those who are on death row to the research?
One of the most effective arguments used in Virginia against the humane education bill pointed out the time that would be taken from students (and teachers) needed to prepare them to pass the state's required Standards of Learning (SOL) testing program.
The argument for humane education is seductive. After all, we want our kids to grow up with an empathy for other living things, do we not?
You are absolutely correct. When we fought the humane ed. bill a few weeks ago, look who was on the front line of the battle (thank goodness!). This organization has been a stalwart fighter against PETA and other humaniacs in Virginia:

Just because your name says "follower of Christ" doesn't convince me that you are one- especially since you don't capitalize His name!
I thought religion was prohibited in the class room.
OMG! I love it!

Is there any difference?
Some time ago PETA came out against pet ownership. I think they have since dropped that part of their campaign, and my dog is happy about it.
All he has to do is listen for intruders and give me a warning. In exchange he gets fed, has fresh water (sometimes milk or juice) always at hand, lives in a warm in winter cool in summer apartment, sleeps on a soft bed with his own personal heater (me). He also gets back rubs, ear rubs and belly rubs on demand.
Tough life.
