The concept is tired and played out.

How true, at least as far as major media is concerned.. Sexy women are out and gay is in.

Jon Stewart (of The Daily Show... Comedy Central... yeah, its a liberal laugh fest, but gives me the chuckles..) refered to the SI swimsuit issues as; "Quaint, almost... Amish" (ie, by comparison to the day-to-day flesh fest we see everywhere!)

Marisa Miller is the hottest thing on this planet. And possibly any other planet in the galaxy. I don't but this issue, but I spent about 20 minutes staring at it in Barnes & Noble the other day when I had some time to kill.

This reads like a Gay man griping about a magazine that shows beautiful women. Let's let the marketplace make the decision, not some PC fudgepacker.

I don't buy it. I just saw the words "Bikini Babes" and I clicked on the thread.

'Course, if fat chicks and wrinkle prunes are going to be behind every "bikini babes" link, I my stop clicking out of learned helplessness.

I have one complaint, and only one complaint, about the SI Swimsuit Edition. How much would it be worth to Time Warner never, ever again to run a swimsuit pictorial with either of the Williams sisters? There are attractive black women in the world. There are attractive women athletes in the world. There are even attractive black women athletes in the world. At least as far as I'm concerned, Serena and Venus Williams are not among them.

Methinks poor Tom Purcell may be having a mid-life sexual identity crisis. I am already 43 and find this year's SI Swimsuit issue as interesting as those when I was a teenager.

PING to the REPUBLICAN PARTY REPTILE ping list! What is the Republican Party Reptile? It is a creature of the eighties. It's neoconservatism with its pants down around its ankles, the Rehnquist Supreme Court on drugs, a disco Hobbes living without shame or federally mandated safety regulations. The Republican Party Reptile supports a strong defense policy, but sees no reason to conduct it while sober. The RPR believes in minimum government interference in private affairs; unless the government brings over extra girls and some ice. In short, the RPR is the new label that our political spectrum has been crying out for; the conservative with a sense of humor and a healthy dose of depravity.

Of course, the models and bikinis in SI are pretty damned tame--no one seems to mention this, of course.

I've considered the Swimsuit Issue a form of mental cruelty. When it's 20 degrees and snowing outside, somebody waving a bunch of pretty gals in skimpy swimsuits at some tropical paradise is like sadism.

Now that it has devolved into soft core porn, I don't miss it at all.

This seems to be the newest MSM spin, probably trying to ride the coattails of the morality issue.

Hey lighten up! Back in my other life, I carried mail---and believe me, we read your magazines before they went into your mailbox. The "Swim Issue" was the harbinger of spring.

Years later, it still is.

But for the most part, the women are so predictably beautiful, they are boring…. Perhaps it has to do with my age. As 43 moves toward me like a train wreck…

Geez, Tom, maybe it isn’t SI, but you. Try slapping some of this on you, wait a few hours, and take another look…

from the article; "I got a letter recently from a woman nearly 80 years old, and she said the one thing that makes her saddest about our world is the loss of mystery."

Apparently she felt better when she was young and ignorant. It's not surprising that the old feel jaded. They have felt that way for thousands of years, longing for youth, for mystery, for excitement. The writer of this article has the same problem as the old lady. He's old, and what's worse, he feels old.

His boredom isn't caused by the world. The world is as exciting as it has ever been. The opportunities have never been greater. No, his boredom is caused by old age.

Any guy who thinks beautiful women are boring, probably can't get it up any more, and should look into getting a prescription for Viagra instead of announcing his problems to the world via an article.

Thx for the ping TheBigB;^)

models, actresses (sp?), etc. totally turn me off.

listening to them yack about how the role was just 'made' for them, their bad hair days,....... good God. The only thing they have to offer anyone is their fleeting looks and their too damn stupid to realize they ALL hit the wall at 35.

SHUT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do the women look like 14 year old boys or do they actually have curves this year?

Those scrawny things in the SI swimsuit issue don't even qualify as women in my book. Any girl that starves herself half to death and has toxic waste injected into her breasts seems to fill the bill for them.

Some of this year's models look anorexic, and their round silicone breasts look incongruous with their bodies. They look like someone screwed them on.

I've only seen it from time to time at doctors offices.

I am noticing a trend though. I used to kind of grin when people would get the "unrated directors cut" of movies with maybe a little more steamy sex. I wanted to say, why don't you just cut with the game playing and rent some porn.

It looks like that is what our culture is doing. With all the pay and free porn on ther internet, and you don't even need a "plain brown wrapper," why get the "swimsuit issue" of a sports magazine?

If you absolutely have to have hard copy to take into the bathroom with you, use your photo quality printer. You can even zoom in on the parts you like.

Better yet, take the WiFi connected laptop in with you.

I'll say this again. Our country/culture is a gold plated garbage can.

Technical excerpt:

A Boring System For Non-Round Holes

Machining an out-of-round bore is easy if you're not particular about the location or magnitude of the roundness error. But accurately machining a hole that has a precisely defined non-round profile is a capability that would seem to be well beyond what a standard boring bar can accomplish.

Makino (Mason, Ohio) has been working on boring technology to accomplish exactly that. Servo-controlled coolant pressure moves a boring tool's cutting diameter in and out, in coordination with the angular position of the tool as it rotates at speeds around 1,000 rpm. The result is an ability to machine "shaped bores"—bores that have precisely controlled out-of-round features. These features don't even have to be axially symmetric.
