BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) -- As 55 people died in Iraq on Saturday, the holiest day on the Shiite Muslim religious calendar, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton said that much of Iraq was "functioning quite well" and that the rash of suicide attacks was a sign that the insurgency was failing.
Clinton, a New York Democrat, said insurgents intent on destabilizing the country had failed to disrupt Iraq's landmark Jan. 30 elections.
"The concerted effort to disrupt the elections was an abject failure. Not one polling place was shut down or overrun," Clinton told reporters inside the U.S.-protected Green Zone, a sprawling complex of sandbagged buildings surrounded by blast walls and tanks. The zone is home to the Iraqi government and the U.S. Embassy.
The five-member U.S. congressional delegation arrived in Baghdad as a series of suicide bombings and explosions killed 55 people, including an American solder. Much of the violence was aimed at Shiite Muslims, commemorating Ashoura, the festival marking the 7th century death of a leader of their sect.
"The fact that you have these suicide bombers now, wreaking such hatred and violence while people pray, is to me, an indication of their failure," Clinton said.
The senate delegation included Republicans John McCain of Arizona, Susan Collins of Maine, Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and Wisconsin Democrat Russ Feingold.

So, President Bush was right on Iraq? Don't all you Democrats trample each other lining up to publicly apologize to the president! Looks like Senator Clinton is seeking the nomination for the White House in 2008, why else such a hard-right tack? Sorry, 'thunder-thighs', the American people(except for the cretins that voted for Francois Heinz-Kerry) aren't fooled by your pathetic attempt to paint yourself as a faux conservative. Nice try, Shrillary....

I'll bet she's been studying Margaret Thatcher.
As she goes further toward the center, I wonder if her loony left fan club will agree? I think they will.
She'll show the media her new ideas and show the left her real ones behind closed doors.

Shrillery can see the train leaving the station and she is bound to be on it, even if she has to crawl out of her own skin to do so.

A guy driving home from work in NYC suddenly came to a halt on the highway. He flags a cop and asks Whats the problem?
The cop says that Hillary Clinton was so depressed that she had her motorcade stop in the middle of traffic and is threatening to douse herself with gas and set herself on fire. Shes tired of all the jokes about her, Bills cheating, and people telling her to forget about her presidential run in 2008. So were taking up a collection for her.
The man says: Really? How much have you raised so far?
The cop replied: Only about 4 gallons
but, a lot of folks are still siphoning!

Condi: Why I Support the Second Amendment
Secretary of State nominee Dr. Condoleezza Rice is a big supporter of the
second amendment, a commitment cultivated during her days growing up in
Bull Conner's Birmingham, Alabama, when the shotgun wielded by her father
was often the only thing that stood between her family and the Ku Klux
Klan.
In 1963, racial violence was "turning her hometown into 'Bombingham' as
Alabamas governor George Wallace fought a federal court order to
integrate the citys schools," writes Rice biographer Antonia Felix.
In excerpts of her book "The Condoleezza Rice Story," reprinted in the
London Sunday Times, Felix recounts:
"With the bombings came marauding groups of armed white vigilantes called
'nightriders,' who drove through black neighborhoods shooting and starting
fires. [Condi's father] John Rice and his neighbors guarded the streets at
night with shotguns.
"The memory of her father out on patrol lies behind Rices opposition to
gun control today. Had those guns been registered, she argues, Bull Connor
would have had a legal right to take them away, thereby removing one ofthe
black communitys only means of defense."
"I have a sort of pure second amendment view of the right to bear arms,"
said the future Secretary of State.

To: Question Liberal Authority
"Why can't any other Democrats simply come out and take credit for the great success in Iraq?"
Yeah. Like Kerry. Didn't he say something along the lines that any policy working in Iraq was originally his policy borrowed by Bush. If it's failing, it's Bush's.

I am pretty sure that Hannity called this move to the right just after the election in Novemeber. If anyone can get a list of stuff she has said since then, I would bet that it is decidely further right than it ever was before.
She may be a lot of things, conniving, manipulative, meanspirited, power hungry etc...but she is not stupid. The right side is where the bread is buttered and she knows it. She will be a full blown conservative (in speech, not deed) by 2007.

Notice that this profile in courage waited until
after the successful election in Iraq (which would never have happened if she called the shots) to make her statement of support.

Her heinous had her speech all written before she left the states.
She got burned the last time with her thoughtless comments to the troops and about the mission.
She wasn't going there again, no matter what.
Even Russert took her to task after her last trip.
Since most NYers hate the president, the troops, and the very idea of success in Iraq, she must be speaking to the national audience.
Can anyone believe a word she says?

Are prominent Repubs, like Frist and others, out there denouncing Hillary's campaigning in Iraq? I ask because I have been away from the news for a few days and do not know. If so, then great. If not, then Repubs need to hit her hard NOW and keep hitting her hard until she can't stand any more. It is outrageous to me that she would go to Iraq and campaign, and it is outrageous that she would do it in front of the troops. The only thing that makes me more angry is that McCain went with her and sees nothing wrong with her actions.

You know what would make an awesome picture or political cartoon...Take that scene from Patton where Patton drinks atoast, arm entwined with the Russian General...both of them giving each other the the side ways "your next buddy" glance.
Now, photoshop off the head of Patton and put Condi's head on it...do the same for the Russian, only put Hillary's head in its place.
The caption could read "sizing up the competition 2008"
I don't have the talent to do it...maybe some-one here does?
