This case is supposedly all about Terris rights and what she would have wanted. Even George Felos and Michael Schiavo base their entire argument that they are only doing what Terri wanted.
What better proof of what Terri really wants than the fact that she is still alive, against all odds, 14 years later! If Terri really wanted to die, she would have, on her own, long ago.
I object to state ordered euthanasia by any means of an awake and aware individual.
Forced Exit....that's what we care about. This isn't a person already dying, this isn't a person being kept alive by a respirator, etc. Since, when she ALLEGEDLY made her remarks about artificial life support, feeding tubes were not considered life support, she should be given the therapy her husband swore he'd provide with the big fat malpractice award. I for one don't hate you, I just don't think her, or her case belong in the end-of-life issues catagory.
I'm ashamed of my government.
The Schindlers, however, are expected to ask Pinellas Circuit Judge George W. Greer for a stay to allow them to appeal again to higher courts. If Greer issues that stay, the tube will stay in place.
< snip>
Following an avalanche of calls and e-mails to his office, Gov. Jeb Bush pushed through a law that empowered him to step in and order the tube re-inserted. But Terri's Law was struck down as unconstitutional, however, and the Schindlers' options appear to be running out.
But, assisted by right-to-life activists, they promise another public-relations campaign and, given the history of this protracted and gut-wrenching right-to-die case, nobody can say with certainty when - or how - it will end.
If it were my daughter, they would have to shoot me like a wild dog before they get to her. To hell with the moron judge, the miscreant ex, and any cop who said he was just "doing his job" to pull the food out of her mouth and make her suffer so terribly.
I protest the removal of my post. It was a perfectly reasonable question in response to her awful comment. Maybe you need to delete her comment which suggests a swift and final solution to the 'problem'.
The crime should be attempted murder, and it should be applied to everyone, including members of the judiciary, who have had a hand in this.
Here's why I'm curious.... The only place I have ever heard about this case is here, where the bias is united against the husband, and everyone keeps getting stunned by judgment after judgment against the parents.
I don't believe this guy could be the devil he is made out to be here. If he were the devil and the parents are the heros, they'd have at least won visitation. The fact that there are so many motions that seem to go the way of Michael and against the parents says to me that the case is not as clear cut as you all here think it is. There IS another side. I don't know what the other side is, because I am on the other side of the country where it isn't reported much, but I'd like to think no judge would bar the parents from even visiting without good reason. If it is so obvious to everyone here that Michael is a murderer and it were so obvious that Terri is capable of being responsive, why has NO ONE argued that successfully in court?
Many people say that they would not want to live that way and especially young adults. To actually sign a living will which is available to everyone daily, the majority of the people do not do this.
The will to live is ingrained in all of us. Actuallly very few people commit suicide and usually only the elderly sign living will.
Terri has proven she has the will to live for 14 years.
Your analysis presumes goodwill on the part of the courts that have been involved in this case. That just doesn't exist. These lawyers and judges are on the side of the culture of death.
Essentially the answer is because one judge has ruled that way, time and time again, and the family can not get past him to get justice. When the other two branches of Florida state government (the Executive and Legislative) take action and are then stopped by the same judicial system that almost gave us Al Gore as president, what does that tell you about this case and especially the Florida courts?
That's the part I don't believe. I can't believe that every judge ever to hear this case is in on some great conspiracy to kill this woman.
See CedarDave's post number 56.
Good question.
From this article:
Michael Schiavo: Loving Husband or Monster?
The main evidence comes from a bone scan taken on March 5, 1991. As Terris guardian, Michael Schiavo denied her family access to Terris records, the results of which were not made available until November, 2002. This scan indicated numerous broken bones in various stages of healing, including compressions fractures, a broken back, pelvis, ankle, bone bruises and ossifications.
This would be a good article for you to read for info.
