There have been a lot of gaffes about women lately.
And as Michael Kinsley trenchantly observed, a gaffe occurs not when somebody lies, but when he says what he really thinks.
We got a brutal glimpse into the thinking of a certain segment of the male species reading the transcript of the condescending musings of Harvard's president, Lawrence Summers, on the "intrinsic aptitude" and "variability of aptitude" of women.
Whatever point he was trying to make, he ended up making this one: The problem isn't female aptitude; it's male attitude. He confuses the roles society assigns to women with what women might really want.
The "different socialization" Summers talks about may be getting worse, thanks to goofballs like him. How did he get to be head of Harvard anyway?

Mureeen Dowd IS a gaffe.
Yes, but at least she has Michael Douglas.
</sarcasm>
CROM'S BLOOD!
BOINNNNNNNNNNNG!
Thank you. I was looking for a picture . . .
Once you understand that Feminist have penis envy, everything else falls into place. They hate being a woman. It is best explained in their absolute support of the murder of the unborn. What is inargueably the most important socially and personally, act a woman can solely perform....giving birth... is the most despised and attacked by the likes of Dowdy.
She is putting a Hunter Thompson in her columns, without the integrity of actual suicide. If Bill Keller, the Editor of the NY Times cannot see that, doesn't he have any friends who are psychiatrists give him a clue?
Stop this woman before she writes again.
Congressman Billybob
Maureen, methinks perhaps Prof. Summers hit a bit too close to the mark? We don't all have the same capabilities. Just accept that fact. Variety is the spice of life, you know!
Viva la difference! (sorry about the french folks!)
They are so perverse.
"People are such amazing creatures, and to be able to make one I mean, I can't make anything. I can't make a paper airplane, but I can make a person. That's an amazing gift. If I'm able to, I would love to. ... Whenever a guy says, 'Thank God I don't have to give birth,' I'm like, 'Are you crazy? That's the luckiest thing about being a girl.' "
Natalie Portman as quoted in the Washington Times:

At least Natalie gets it!
What does Maureen Dowd look like anyway? Picture? Would like to see just how far up Michael Douglas traded (I'm not even a fan of his).
>>>The problem isn't female aptitude; it's male attitude.<<<
Fact the truth Maureen, it's FEMALE INAPTITUDE, plain and simple. Truth hurts eh moe?
"We got a brutal glimpse into the thinking of a certain segment of the male species reading the transcript of the condescending musings of Harvard's president, Lawrence Summers, on the "intrinsic aptitude" and "variability of aptitude" of women."
Oh please. I'm sure Mr. Summers had no such intention as being "condescending". Nor I'm sure did he have an "attitude".
Sometimes the truth hurts. Telling the truth isn't the problem, it's what you do with it. Or, how the "victim" responds to it.
So women on the whole may not be as good at math, or as quick-thinking. That doesn't mean there are not brilliant women, OR, most importantly, that all women will be shut out of jobs just because most women aren't as good as men.
I was hoping this article (w/o noticing this was by Dowd) was about how indeed women haven't gotten very far. In terms of being treated as sex objects, I think it's gotten worse. Assuming men were horrid sex-crazed woman-exploiters in the old days, the '60s "sex revolution" did NOT bring men UP to the level of "morally pure" women, but rather took women DOWN to the level of sex-crazed hedonist decadents - who get used much more than 100 years ago. But no talk here about that here. I'm sure liberal Dowd is fine w/free sex. She just doesn't want to hear some1 speak the simple truth (truths which include women are better at other things). And she tags that truth-telling as "arrogance" of some kind.
This article displays what she thinks of women, even more than what she thinks of men. She thinks women, particularly homely or overweight women, are so despicable that "the best night of their lives" was when they had sex with a stranger who happened to be a baseball player.
Both Ms. Dowd and the people she's describing are sad and pitiful beyond words.

Who is she writing this swill for? She needs a slump buster, maybe another shopping spree at the Victoria's Secret at the Riyadh, Saudi Arabia Airport. And where's the Zeta-Jones Pix?
Well, you don't have to be insulting about it. :-)
And, uh, speaking of INAPTITUDE - it's "ineptitude". ;-)
Yep; definite trade-up!
I would just like to say for the record... I feel strong enough to do most of what I need to around this place, and have never wanted my own 'lumber' swinging in the breeze.
Good for Natalie. I was worried about her after seeing her in The Professional, but apparently she has some pretty darn good parents.
LOL!
I was referring to the feminazis. I am fairly certain you do NOT fall into that category.
A fact (e.g. On balance women are not as physically strong as men) is always denied or ignored if it fails to pass the PC test.
Hard to believe she is being paid to be a looney.
Had this been written from the opposite perspective the looney left (including her) there would be a army of MSM mediots "outraging" on the FRONTpage literally.
The best Mzzzzz. Dowd can expect is a yawn and a "there she goes again."
Prediction: she is going to glom onto some desperate guy so she can stop being ridiculed for being an dating/relationhip parahia.
Well he is right that the Dowdy's of the world would like to be able to join the game.
There's that pretty girl and her poor old grandfather again.
I think she's just angry because she was never anyone's "road beef", imported or otherwise! (Being Michael Douglas' road beef doesn't count - ugh!).
You know, now that I actually read the whole thing - I find more of it was about more like I was thinking. Not sure how the professor was lumped in there, in any case.
Frankly, in many ways, I agree w/her attitude. The sex stuff is the problem, and it's much worse w/our easy-swinging attitudes these days I'm sure than 100 years ago. In some ways, women are treated w/much less respect than they were. Of course, that's partly cuz women have debased themselves to BE sex toys.
And that's just MHO.
So basically you're countering his generalization of female qualities with your own generalization of male qualities.
'Round and 'round we go!
"Whatever point he was trying to make, he ended up making this one: The problem isn't female aptitude; it's male attitude. "
All I think when I see that picture is slapping CZT silly and yelling "What in the HE!! were you thinking girl!"
Geez...
I nominate this for "unintentional self-parody of the day."
Hey Dowdy, see what men REALLY think about you and your ilk.
http://www.americanwomensuck.com/forums/index.php
Hey Hair! Good to see you on another thread....
"....have never wanted my own 'lumber' swinging in the breeze."
Frankly, exactly as Elaine said on "Seinfeld" - "I don't know how you guys walk around w/those things." :-D I sure as hell don't know how they RUN faster w/those things. At least au`naturale.
Remember feminism is for ugly women.
Ugly goes straight to the bone.
>>Well, you don't have to be insulting about it. :-)<<
I'm not being insulting, just stating the facts sweetheart and imo it's IN-APTITUDE = no aptitude - you speak you language I speak mine!
Seems kind of cumbersome to me... it's like some kind of opinionated and disruptive conjoined twin or something. ;~D
There is more then one way to be ugly...dowdy is living proof of it.
You know, this kind of thing is actually sexist - whether you think so or not.
All you guys automatically say, e.g., only ugly women are feminists. And as has been said here plenty already, Dowd is jealous of some "beauty" (and apparently a sleaze, may I say) like Zeta-Jones.
I hear this crap all the time on this forum as well as in real life, and it gets real old.
That would be a filthy insult to any woman with self-respect. Unfortunately for poor Maureen, the fact that she hates men, women, children, and, I suppose, cats, suggests that she hates herself as well.
family pushes women away from careers.
Thanks for the quote from Natalie Portman as quoted in the Washington Times: - I'm amazed there's actually a 'real' woman who likes being a woman that's still in print!
I'm a writer and a portrait artist, but put everything on hold to raise my 4 sons and a daughter - and have had questions all my life about "Why didn't you pursue your career?"
My answer has always been - "But I did," as I point to the photos of my kids and their families (now 15 g'kids), "and look how successful I was! And I loved every minute of it."
(and now I have plenty of "subjects" to paint)
fpr example:

Raising children, keeping a home - as opposed to a house that everyone rushes back to after work and scurries around doing all the work that would've already been done - IS a career. The hardest yet most rewarding there is...and what you do, how you raise your children, passes down thru the generations.
I see things getting instilled in my grandkids by their parents that I had taught me by my grandparents - that's 5 generations of tradition and skills.
What other career can claim the same influence and longevity.
There is no such word as "inaptitude". 1 can be inept, but not inapt.
But women are better at verbal. ;-)
Good for you!!!!
when I say ugly I am strictly talking about personality. It would not matter what Dowd looked like, if her writings are an indication of her regular personality.
Bodies are easy to change. There is no personality plastic surgery.
I totally agree and will add that professionally most women do not promote women (it must be the cat in them) but men do promote women.
>>>There is no such word as "inaptitude". <<<
I understand what you are saying, I said IMO it should be in-aptitude = NO aptitude! No big deal! The FACT remains women and men are different!
