Prayer Request for FReeper Henry Lee II

All,

 

Fellow FReeper, Henry Lee II, spent the weekend in the hospital with a dangerously low blood platelete count (1-2k vs 100-400k which is normal).  While he was released late Sunday, he's been back to the E.R. several times since then with spontaneous nose bleeds.

 

He's been diagnosed with Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura, which may take care of itself, or may require surgery.  He's also had a bone marrow biopsy to rule out leukemia or another malignancy.

 

Please keep him and his family in your prayers, and pray for a high platelete count in his future blood tests.

My daughter had this when she was five. it takes about six weeks to get the white blood cells back at normal levels. just take care not to bruise your self or get conked in the head. childrens hosptial in LA thought we had beat our daughter ,she had erupted in bruises all over her body. thank goodness our brotherinlaw is a sheriff and explained everything!
in the meanwhile i'll keep you in my prayers.

My brother had something similar a couple of years ago and it cleared itself up in a few months.

My older brother has been battling this condition for the last couple of years. One of those things they never seem to have a name for. With medications and transfusions, he does quite well, though. His life is normal.

The same thing happened to me when I was 19; my platelet count went down to 1, but for me it was due to lupus. Auto-immune diseases can attack your body in multiple ways, and you never know what to expect next. If your doctors haven't checked for this, they should immediately.

I can only imagine your feelings at this time, but I hope for the best! Your family and your faith will help you through this. It was a pretty scary moment in my life, but I will never forget the support from friends and loved ones. And I never fail to thank those unknown individuals who gave their platelets to help save my life.

As an aside to those who are in healthy condition and have never donated blood: please do so! You WILL save lives!
