German protesters call Bush "No. 1 Terrorist"

MAINZ, Germany (Reuters) - Some 7,000 protesters, some carrying banners saying "Bush go home", "War Monger" and "No. 1 Terrorist", marched through the German town of Mainz on Wednesday but were kept away from the visiting U.S. president.

The largely peaceful rally never got within a kilometre (half mile) of U.S. President George W. Bush, who is on his first German visit since the 2003 Iraq war, which was deeply unpopular in Germany.

"I'm disgusted by the war in Iraq Bush started that has cost thousands of civilian lives," said Thomas Odenweller, 49, a computer technician. "Now he's trying to normalise relations with Europe. It must be stopped."

Ignoring snow and freezing temperatures, the demonstrators held banners chastising Bush in English with slogans such as: "You can bomb the world to pieces but not into peace." Many had pre-printed posters reading: "Bush, No. 1 Terrorist".

Before the march, one speaker told the crowd: "Mr. Bush, please leave our country. You started an illegal war against Iraq."

German police confiscated one poster that read: "We had our Hitler, now you have yours."

Some protesters praised Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder for his opposition to the Iraq war and refusal to send troops.

That is pathetic, you can get 7000 German's to protest the use of soap, but then again, you can get most of the country to protest the use of soap.

100,000 plus people hit the streets in Greece when Clinton went there; they dang near burned up Athens. There were bombs, hundreds of people taken to the hospital.

Heck, Clinton even had to cut his three day trip to Turkey down to about five hours.

Sheesh, I thought. One minute they say he's bad because he doesn't travel...

Now a measly 7000, Government Stipends must be running out.

yeah thats a big no no in Germany. Any reference to the H word gets you carted away. Funny how it flipped from as far right as you can get to far left.

It also reminds me a story my dad told when we lived in germany. The german city was pissed off at the American base and that they used the forest for tanks training and what not. So the city made it a Protected forest and told the base commander they could move tanks through it any more. The base commander said no prob. At 5 in the morning the base commander was rolling all the tanks through the city tearing up the roads. By lunch rolled around the forest wasn't protected any more.

You know what?? Who cares?? President Bush is in Europe to try and let them know the world is a dangerous place and they are all first on the list of the bad stuff coming in!! If you sell this bad stuff to a terrorist, he will make you a number one target because he doesn't care who you are unless you are one of his kind!! A terrorist uses what he can that works for him and when it quits working, you become a target like the rest of the civilized world. Terrorists and those who support them are not civilized people and will never understand the rule of law.

Humm, let's see --

Hitler's Germany = imprisonment and murder of millions of Jew and other 'unwanteds'.

Bush's America = Liberator of peoples from the oppression of tyrannical dictatorships who had imprisoned and murdered hundreds of thousands of 'unwanteds'. Yes, they sound roughly equivalent.

Germans have a conscience to clear, and they're desperately seeking "Hitlers" to justify their real one. How many times have I heard that "Sharon is Hitler", and "Zionism is Nazism" come out of German protests?

Germany (and France) is on its way out as a superpower. The once-mighty German industrial base has had to join the EU (as France has) for any hope of competing in the new world market. Bush's visit to Europe is a de facto, parental arm around the shoulders of a crybaby European Union... Is there any better way to underscore the weakness of Germany and their position on the war than a visit by a real grownup? Like a parent, Bush has shouldered the responsibility of protecting the child... no matter how loudly the child protests.

"German protesters call Bush 'No. 1 Terrorist'"

Well, you know, I have lots of faith in the German people and their ability to identify major terrorists. Just look at their track record with Hitler, for example.

/Sarcasm

Hitler dreamed of a unified Europe. His sequel to Mein Kampf also stated that Europe's ultimate and final enemy was the United States, purely because it was the only single entity with a large enough population and agricultural sector to underwrite a military threat that could potentially counter the actions of a Fortress Europe. The manuscript was never published in great quantity, but make no mistake, it does exist. There was a program on the History Channel about it, and it wasn't one of those kook conspiracy ones, either. It ran in Late January or Early February of this year.

The real irony here is that you have people claiming to be anti-fascist who are actually furthering Hitler's personal visions, probably in near-total ignorance of that fact.

How ironic that the citizens of one of the world's premier murderous nations, Germany, responsible for the death of 55 million people during WWII calling the President of the country that has saved more lives and freed more people in the history of the world a terrorist would be hilarious were it not so perfidious and bass ackwards.

A very, very black pot calling the kettle black. What will the stupid Europeans say or do when the Islamization of Europe is complete and they are all slaves to a totally intolerant Islamofascist regime in their native country?

No no no. Hitler was not "far right", he was a socialist who hated capitalism and was anti-Christian. Couple that with his hate for Jewish people and and you can see he was far more like Howard Dean than George W. Bush.

So much for any kind of claim to the superiority of the European education system...

The Germans should read up on the history of the Ba'thist Party & it's relationship with the Nazi Party of Hitler.

Iraq was unfinished business left over after WWII. History is repeating itself, with German popular opinion leaning in favor of the Nazi again.

The largely peaceful rally...

When leftists protests include violent incidents the MSM characterizes the event as largely peaceful. If a Freeper rally resulted in an inadvertant door ding it would be characterized as a boiling cauldron hate fest that became a lawless riot.

"Right" and "left" are relative depending on what country you're in. In Hitler's Germany, he was considered on the "right" or a "conservative" even though he was a socialist pig because he preached ancient Teutonic myth a lot and reminded desperate, cold, unemployed people of their proud and ancient heritage. If the same thing were to happen in today's Germany, Gerhardt the socialist's party MIGHT be switched from the "left" where it is now to the "right" or more likely, "moderate".

It's no biggie, just confusing.
