Because the law can't be as simplistic as you make it sound and extraneous circumstances must be considered. The husband should have guardianship no matter what? And forever?

What if he only remembered her saying she would want to to exercise this so-called right to die after he was awarded a hefty settlement as a result of court proceedings during which he pledged his undying love and commitment to her care?

What if he subsequently denied her promised therapy for a decade after receiving money specifically designated for such?

What if he instead spent most of the therapy money on attorneys' fees trying to convince the court that his wife really wanted to die rather than have her hands kept from curling up into her chest?

What if he caused her to spend most of her time alone in a room with no stimulation in a facility specifically designated and federally funded for the care of the terminally ill?

What if he posted a guard outside her door to limit and control the visits by her parents and family, sometimes whimsically denying them altogether?

And what if, in the meantime, he started a new family outside the relationship he so earnestly claimed he had with his disabled wife?

Should such a caring devoted man retain guardianship, or should additional parties be allowed to petition the court on Terri's behalf?

You know, I must admit, reading those facts as I just wrote them, I am astounded that we are at this place at all, that Terri's parents are still fighting for her life and their rightful place in it, after all this time, despite all that has gone on. It's truly incredible.

I do not like the tone of this thread! Come on! We all sound like the grumbling Israelites in the desert, finding doubt and disbelief with everything. Let's not have a "Marah" attitude here! :o)

I understand what you mean, I just want our side to be ready for them. You can always trust evil to do evil.

Hi there,
I hate to sound stupid.. (opening myself for all sorts of things here..) What is DCF?

My prayers are with Terri, her family, and all who are fighting for her!

I had a friend in high school who was brain damaged in an automobile accident - Terri reminds me so much of her...

You are so right. I wish someone would get the email address of her 'husband's employer' so I could tell them I will not ever use their product(s).

Either they will succeed in their new hearings to save Terry or

She will be rescued from the Hospice and taken to safety.

The Church of Scientology is there but I saw no signs of them taking over during the times I was there. I did see them walking up and down one street every time I went past but it was just one street.

Some investigative journalist has started looking into the case! See http://www.theempirejournal.com for more on that!

What got to me was when they stopped giving her food and water last time, and they threatened to arrest the good priest who attempted to give her the Eucharist.

For the most part I guess. Regular news, drudge report, tv here and there. I remember Bush and the legislature writing a new law, which I thought was wrong because it was ex-post facto. I don't have a broad understanding of the case since I haven't followed all of it. I don't understand the husband's motive. It occurred to me he might be a religious man and wanted to marry in a church or something but that wouldn't apply if he has children with his fiancee. He could just get a divorce and marry her. Seems to me there's something missing.

Is there any evidence that people coming to the hospital emergency room have told personnel that they do not want to be treated by Michael R. Schiavo? Or could there be others who actually ask for Schiavo's services?

You are absolutely right, misty! Even though we don't yet trust this judge, let's not be hasty. This is a ruling in Terri's favor. God worked on softening Pharaoh's heart, He can soften Greer's (and Michael's).
