LISTEN UP:

In a written statement to Congress in 1935, Roosevelt said that any Social Security plans should include, "Voluntary contributory annuities, by which individual initiative can increase the annual amounts received in old age," adding that government funding, "ought to ultimately be supplanted by self-supporting annuity plans."

WHICH PART OF SELF SUPPORTING ANNUITY DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND ???

and I will forgo social security for the rest of my life if all of congress and the past presidents and future elected officials will forgo their retirement from the government.

I like that proposition, but I don't think the career politicians will agree to it. They get a real good deal.

Excellent point.

I've been bending people's ears about this for years, but it never makes it into the "public discourse".

Thanks for saving me the trouble of writing it up.

"All of these political chicken-littles that are against this change, are acting like EVERY American retiree will NEED their SS to survive----which is not true. My husband an I aren't rich by any means, but we do have a retirement plan that is going to be our main source of funding---not SS. Isn't SS supposed to be a "safety net", not a "savings account"?"

People who take personal responsibility for their retirement as you have, will be the ones screwed by the "means testing" to come in the future. "Means" means, if you've provided for yourself, you won't see a penny of what was stolen for the deadbeats
