If you want your children to be rich, get them into a trade school for air condition/heating, diesel repair, plumbing, electrical work or auto repair. Lawyers are a dime a dozen and getting cheaper as the unemployed go home to live with their parents.

Are lawyers a dime a dozen? Yes.

Are good lawyers a dime a dozen? No. BTW, good lawyers are not getting cheaper, but rarer and more expensive.

Puleeeese elaborate! My sixteen year old high school sophmore is one of those who's otherwise bright, but hates the acedemics. The only class he loves is auto mechanics. I'm mortified, not because of classism, but I was in auto sales till I was six months pregnant with him, and I remember the mechanics (oops "technicians," sorry) as not doing all that well.

I would say get your kids into construction and have them learn about the major areas: electrical, plumbing, carpentry, masonry. After a few years, they can get a general contractors license and make millions.

The people making the real bucks are the developers, who hire illegal immigrants, pay them nothing, and slap together a few houses. Meanwhile, the rest of us subsidize all of this thru property taxes and get rewarded with a lower standard of living because of the increased traffic, crime, pollution.

I did the Navy nuke thing out of high school and have never had any regrets. Not only do you get extensive schooling (a plus to future employers), you get valuable years of experience (another big plus), discipline (yet another plus), and the satisfaction of knowing that you did something for your country. I'm in the chemical business now, and while I'm certainly far from rich, I do earn more than several people at my place of employment who have post-grad degrees (of course, part of that may because I'm non-exempt, and actually get paid overtime, while the people with degrees get suckered into being exempt, and then are expected to work late and come in on weekends for nothing).

I know the military is not for everyone, but if a kid getting ready to enter the world is mentally and physically fit, they ought to at least give it some consideration.
