Saddam Hussein's half-brother captured in Iraq

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A half-brother and former adviser to Saddam Hussein has been captured in Iraq, according to sources in the interim government.

Sabawi Ibrahim al-Hasan al-Tikriti was number 36 on the U.S. military's list of the 55 most wanted people in Iraq. No other details were provided. An official announcement would be made soon, the sources said on Saturday.

"Sabawi is captured, he's a big catch," one official in the government said.

I FERVENTLY pray that it's soon .. Gen. Meyers says it is. From his lips to the ear of God. Maybe, with the beginnings of freedom, some smart Iraqi will actually realize what $10M (although I thought they raised it to $25M) US Dollars could do to improve his lifestyle.

That wanted poster may be a bit dated.

The reward system functioned in the capture of Saddam. With Zarqawi's scores of murdered innocent victims, American and hundreds of Iraqi bystanders dead resulting from his orchestrated mass slaughters, most thinking Iraqis want this Islamic serial killer stopped now.

Pray it's real soon!

Right back at ya! It's lunchtime here.

Sometimes I find out about things like this from FR before any other sources. This news is one of those times.

I've even found out the cause behind explosions I've heard out there on FR before I hear it from our people here.

See? You all rock. ;-)

Saddam's half-brother arrested in Iraq: intelligence chief

BAGHDAD (AFP) - A half-brother of ousted Iraqi president Saddam Hussein, who figures on the US list of Iraq's most wanted, has been arrested, the interior ministry's intelligence chief said.

"Sabawi Ibrahim al-Hassan has been arrested in Iraq," Hussein Ali Kamel told AFP, but declined to provide any further details.

The half-brother is number 36 on the US list of 55 most wanted former regime officials in Iraq.

Two other half-brothers of Saddam are in custody at a US army-run jail near Baghdad and are set to be tried in the coming months

Sabawi Ibrahim al-Hassan was one of about a dozen of the most wanted oficials who have so far escaped arrest or death at the hands of American-led security forces.

Kamel said an officials statement on the arrest would be made later Sunday.

Among those still at large is Ezzat Ibrahim al-Duri, Saddam's former deputy and vice president of the former ruling Revolution Command Council.

Actually, he turned himself in not too long after Baghdad fell and the U.S. forces said something like "Ummmm, thanks. But you're not on our list. You're free to go."

What an ego blow, huh?

OK, now I'm really off to lunch.

Yes, this is a different "get", just no word yet on when, where and how. Those recently were all Zarq's bunch...this one's a Baathist Mr. Big, operating in and out of Syria and Iraq it is believed, to fuel the Baathist "insurgency". Saddam had three half brothers who were VIP in his murderous Regime; two had already been captured, and now this dude makes all three. Other than Ibrahim al-Douri and Zarqawi, this guy was the most wanted.
