Belgians get scolding from Vito Photo stickers of Bush were placed in urinals in some ministry offices in Brussels Saturday, February 26, 2005 By TERENCE J. KIVLAN
WASHINGTON -- Photo stickers of President Bush and the American flag placed in urinals in some Belgian ministry offices in Brussels right before the president's European tour have Rep. Vito Fossella mighty peeved.
But the lawmaker's ire, expressed to the Belgian prime minister at the Belgian Embassy here, may have been misdirected.
Although Fossella (R-Staten Island/Brooklyn) accused the prime minister of responsibility for the stickers, Serge Wauthier, an embassy spokesman, noted that the Belgian government had condemned the stickers and their placement earlier this week, taking "a very clear position distancing itself from this initiative."
In his letter, addressed to Prime Minister Johan Vande Lanotte, Fossella wrote that "such cheap political humor at the expense of the American flag was beneath a country with such a rich heritage as Belgium."
Wauthier responded that, although he found Fossella's letter very moving, it was up to Belgian Ambassador Frans Van Daele to respond to it, not the prime minister.
The congressman noted that the American flag graces the graves of thousands of American troops who died while liberating Belgium and other European countries from German occupation during World Wars I and II.
He also chided the Belgians for expressing any disagreement they have with U.S. policy on such a childish level.
The stickers, which bear the caption, "Go ahead. P--- on me," are said to be a common sight in the public toilets of Belgian schools, youth clubs and pubs.

those europigs. such class. have you ever seen such sorry losers? Besides the Red Sox, I mean.
Europeans are such losers. They act like little children. Kind of loke our lefties here taking all the W's off the keyboards.
That's OK, every DAY, I take a chIRAQ and wipe my Germany, with some Belgian.
What a coincidence - I use toilet paper that is a continuous roll of little EU flags.
Boy do I hate the European trash that has taken over once great Europe.
At the post office where I work, we have urinal targets of Osama bin-Laden, and I take frequent and deadly aim every day I work there...
May God bless the USPS....
Lie-berals here are just like the Lie-berals abroad, childish, immature, snot-nosed brats who want to be able to play with all the toys and have someone else buy them. The Belgians responsible probably sat back snickering about how clever they are.
Hey no fair..i'm a die hard sox fan and not a sore loser!
Maybe we could round up a bunch of Skin Heads and Neo Nazi types and give them Belgium to play with. Just build a big fence around the place, then turn them loose.
Belgium = Belgistan
Ok, the pics of Bush in the urinals are funny....but not our flag. Thats not right.
I've seen urinals with Kerry's picture in them. It's all fair game in politics, tasteless, but fair game. The flag on the other hand is an entirely different matter.
Urinal Cake Supplier Gears Up for Spirited Presidential Election
Flushing, NY | The country's oldest restroom supply company hopes this year's unusually long election season will be a major boost to the bottom line.
John Ballcock's family-owned business has manufactured industrial-strength urinal cakes (he prefers the term "deodorant blocks") since 1929. And his political novelties, a small but profitable sideline, have been making a splash since the early 50s.
Although this year's short and relatively polite Democratic race worried Ballcock initially, he now thinks it was a blessing in disguise.
"2004 is shaping up to be the most divisive Presidential campaign anyone around here can remember," says Ballcock. "This could potentially be the longest pissing contest in U.S. history."
In fact, the manufacturing plant has hired additional workers in anticipation of a lengthy and mean-spirited battle.
But, when asked why he doesn't offer political-theme toilet paper as well, Ballcock explained "Mostly because politicians aren't worth a crap."
I suppose they have a right to do this, Personally I have a picture of Chirac in mine.
If ever I walk into a men's room and see a US flag in the urinal, I'm not going to complain or anything. I'm just going to take the leak on the floor instead. Whoever runs the place clearly has a taste for sophomoric gestures.
Yeah, I hate the European Union too.
the local saloon i frequent has had jane "the treasonous b**ch" fonda in the urinals as a target over the years
