A Jacksonville victim rights group and a state legislator urged Gov. Jeb Bush on Monday to launch a criminal probe into events that put Terri Schiavo in the hospital with severe brain damage 15 years ago.
Justice Coalition founder Ted Hires also asked the state Department of Children & Families to take Schiavo into protective custody and Florida's attorney general to initiate a civil rights investigation into her treatment and efforts by her husband to have the feeding tube that keeps her alive removed. . . .
Her parents said they filed the divorce proceedings because of Michael Schiavo's "total disregard for Terri as his wife." ....

I won't say you're politically incorrect.
I'll say you're uninformed about the facts.
There are quotes from the estranged husband to the effect that he had no idea what her wishes were. Something like, "How the he!! do I know what she wanted. We were only in our 20s."
That quote is around, and can be found.
"I am making a point to not respond to any more posts that are in any way in opposition to supporting Terri.
Terri doesn't have time to waste and neither do I in fighting for her cause. "
I passionately agree with this! We can see the TRUTH and don't need to waste time trying to re-educate those who post only to obfuscate the TRUTH! Nothing I say will change their hideous little hearts. Nothing they say will change my belief in the sanctity of human life.
She wanted to divorce him, beginning in 1989. That was because he was abusive to her.
Now that he has been living with someone else for 10 years, and has 2 children with that woman, I think we can probably guess what her choice would be at this stage of the situation.
My only problem with this is that someone who doesn't know the facts of the case may read a thread and see the misinformation unanswered. You never know who's reading info.
That is probably the best way to handle this now.
If people want to believe that it's better to kill a disabled, handicapped woman, then I can only pity them.
"Whatsoever you do to the least of these, you do to me."
Perhaps you are right, you have more patience with these ghouls than I.
I'm with you, lady. The newbie is most likely a troll looking to start some infighting. I usually don't respond to them either. This one just pushed my buttons.
They know how. Their posts are designed to do that.
It's a great story, and it proves that Terri is NOT brain dead, nor is she a veggie. The account of Christmas 2004's visit with her is equally important.
Like I said on another thread, I never thought I'd cheer for Social Services.
Well, well, well.
How very DEAR of Ms. Labayak to make herself available to this particular panel. How very INTERESTING that George Felos was then the Chairman of the Board for her Hospice. How CONVENIENT that this particular Hospice is associated with George Soros's Project on Death in America. And how very CURIOUS that all of this happened around the same time Florida was trying to make a martyr out of Terri Schiavo.
Anyone surprised at these bedfellows?
Anyone?
Beuhler?

Welcome to Free Republic!
That is true, and I don't want to offend anyone that might join up to help Terri, but the disrupters follow the same format in posting.
There is a ton of information already available, and easy to find.
What I avoid is responding to posts that state information on a particular point that is easily disputed by simple reading.
For example jbane's posts are argumentative, and that person knows this.
The more time spent on arguing specific points (and that is what is amounts to), the less time one devotes to the actual cause.
This is why I would say that they are people signing up to divert our attentions from taking action to help Terri. 20 mintues tying a response that is ignored is 20 minutes that could have been spent typing a letter/message to help save Terri.
Bump!
I love that picture.
That is what gets them off.
BTTT.
>>I do not know how they handle this struggle day to day with all its ups and downs and dead ends!<<
I don't either. But they do.
Terri's brother once told me that, had it been him, he had no doubt in his mind Terri would be fighting tooth and nail for his life, rights, care, etc. I trust in that. I'd do the same for my own sister - and, indeed, have.
When I hear negative rubbish about the Schindlers, it just makes me see red. No one could possibly know what it's like to walk a mile in their shoes.
Terri ping! If anyone would like to be added to or removed from my Terri ping list, please let me know by FReepmail!
May as well stop feeding the troll.
He said that at the press conference yesterday, too. He is such a good guy, even if he is a 'nole. Tell ya what, it was such a PLEASURE to see them yesterday. I'm wondering -- did any of the turtles make it back safely? (Ask Bob!)

Commentary: Terri Schiavo shouldn't be allowed to starve to death

There is a disabled woman in Florida who is going to be starved to death beginning March 18, by her husband, under authorization from a judge.
Michael Schiavo is going to pull Terri Schiavo's feeding tube and begin a 10- to 25-day long starvation process that will involve excruciating pain for her. Why? Because he says Terri would want it that way. Right.
She is not brain dead or on a respirator. She laughs, cries and tries to talk. She has brain damage and can't lift a spoon to her mouth.
In 1990, Terri's heart stopped beating for several minutes one night because of an unexplained trauma when she was alone with Michael in their apartment, causing an oxygen deficiency to her brain. Michael blames bulimia. There is evidence and testimony of doctors suggesting abuse.
After her collapse, Michael had the latest and greatest treatments administered. She improved. He blamed her doctor for not diagnosing the bulimia and sued him in 1993. He claimed he loved Terri and wanted to spend his life caring for her. A jury awarded him $350,000 and $750,000 in a medical trust fund to pay for the rehabilitative care Michael promised to give Terri. If she should die, he would receive the remainder of the fund.
Since that day in 1993, he has refused her any and all therapy. He was infuriated when nurses treated Terri for an infection and ordered no medication further in the future. He placed "do not resuscitate" on her hospital clipboard. He is withholding new treatments. Her parents can visit only with a policeman. Her priest is not allowed to administer communion. The few existing videos show an alert and alive Terri. He's banned any further footage or pictures. He had a girlfriend at the time of the trial, a woman he is now engaged to and has two children with.
Terri's parents tried to get Michael removed as Terri's guardian, but the court refused. During that trial, he was asked what he did with Terri's jewelry: "Um, I think I took her engagement ring and her, what do they call it, diamond wedding band and made a ring for myself." He will not divorce or release custody of her because he would lose the money.

Is this a good thing or a bad thing?
Hi, Brian -- thanks for posting that info. Here's hoping it all works for Terri!
I find it interesting that you signed up on Freerepublic exactly FOUR days ago. WHO are you? Jodi? a Michael Schiavo plant? WHO? I seriously doubt you are the "expert" you are attempting to make out that you are. YOU HAVE AN AGENDA!!
Maybe the J stands for Jodi....
re: passionate, energetic student involvement for Terri -- I'm still lol at the Gators for Terri -- Goooooooo Gators!
gatorbait! gatorbait! gatorbait! gatorbait! gatorbait! gatorbait! gatorbait! gatorbait! gatorbait!
From LA Times:
Arthur Caplan, chairman of medical ethics at the University of Pennsylvania's School of Medicine, said that in more than seven years of hearings and appeals, the courts had always sided with Michael Schiavo as the best spokesman for his wife's interests and wishes.
"Either you believe in the courts and the right of the spouse to make these decisions, or this case basically calls into question every decision about forgoing life support," Caplan said.
I am as an oasis in a desert here.
Ppffftt! More like a cesspool.
That's what I thought too.
This is definately from HINO's camp.
...and maybe the "bane" in jbane, stands for wolfbane.
Go back and tell the rest of your brethren in the death camp the we veteran FReepers know when we are trolled.
I've seen people walking around with less life in their eyes.
did you see #45?
I sure in he!! don't believe in this sorry Sunabeach! Period.
Don't worry about the "trolls." Everyone of them that I have seen are so uninformed about Terri's case that their comments make virtually no sense at all. Every time they post, they reveal their ignorance and lack of compassion. Besides, they are all living organisms in good health demanding the death of an innocent person.
Clearwater people must be drinking something out of the ordinary to see George W. "Haman" Greer as worthy of admiration and respect.

Father Frank Pavone visited Terri 3 weeks ago and said she is VERY RESPONSIVE. She smiled and followed people around the room with her eyes. She was kissed by her father and SHE KISSED HIM BACK! She prayed with the father, and closed her eyes DURING the prayer, and opened them back up when the prayer was finished. THAT is pretty responsive... NOT PVS.
What's your agenda?

It seems to me that if a horribly BAD thing happened to MY loved one,
that VERY FIRST MOMENT that I saw her would be PERMANENTLY ETCHED in my brain...

--- "Michael fits the profile of an abusive husband. He should most definitely be investigated as the perpetrator of the incident that caused Terris collapse and her current condition."
Testimony of Carole Lieberman, M.D., M.P.H.,
Psychiatrist/Expert Witness
This interim report details the individuals who were on the panel, which included none other than Mary Labyak, Executive Director And CEO, Hospice of The Florida Suncoast. In reading this report and looking through the 22 member panel, I do not see anyone representing the interests of the disabled and incapacitated.
The panel was administered by the Pepper Institute on Aging and Public Policy from Florida State University.

Cant you do anything to accelerate her death - wont she ever die? When she wouldnt die, Michael would be furious. Michael was also adamant that the family should not be given information. ".....
