Frankly, I don't think there's anyone other than Condi who could effectively carry-forward the "Bush Doctrine" in 2008 and beyond.

I agree. There certainly doesn't seem to be anyone on the horizon right now who I'd trust to carry the Bush Doctrine forward other than Condi. Maybe Rudy, but he was damaged by the Kerik matter. Also, Rudy is too "liberal" for many Republican primary voters. I also have liked Sen. George Allen for a long time, but he'd have to leave the senate. History has proven time and time again that the senate is no place to be if you want to run for president.

I have always dismissed the notion of VP Cheney stepping aside in '06 or '07 to give a boost to someone for the nomination as just bunk. But I'm starting to come around on that. I could see Condi going from state to the VP slot, especially if the the good signs in the Middle East start to bear real fruit. From there, it would be all but totally clear sailing to the nomination.

Well, that's good to know, because I heard the electronics had to all be redone.

Really? That would be surprising and unfortunate. If the electronics aren't right, it would make me wonder what else might be wrong.

BTW There is a poll on the US News & World Report site. Condi or Hillery for Prez. Last I looked Condi 72 Hillery 28%.

Wow! I know internet polls don't mean squat, but still that's interesting.

BTW, Pol, Onyx says she heard the Reagan's electronics all have to be redone. Have you heard anything about that? I know you're keeping an eye on the ship.

Notice that he's in civvies when he meets with Abbas, and is in full dress uniform when he meets with the Israelis.

A not-so-subtle compliment to Israel, a subtle slam against the Palestinians, and a very explicit sign of the administration's 'take' on things.

she heard the Reagan's electronics all have to be redone.

Don't think that is correct.

Re the Reagan: I didn't think so, but I know you're more on top of the situation than me.

Ditto that. Some would squeel that Bush was anointing his successor, but, frankly, I'd trust Bush and Rove with the lives of my family, so I'd trust them to pick a successor (particularly if one or two likely candidates do not emerge by the end of this year). I think it would be exciting to have Condi move to head of the class.

Personally, I don't see what would be wrong about that, especially if were to be Condi. She and the President obviously see eye-to-eye on foreign poiicy. What we don't know about her is her views on domestic policy. Like Rudy, I suspect she might be "too liberal" for some. However, if the Middle East does take a dramatic turn for the better in the next three years, Condi would almost be a shoo-in despite the usual "real" conservative clamor.

To the best of my knowledge,
I've not seen it confirmed in
print or media of any kind.
The info was told to me by my
youngest son who said an officer
friend of his told him.... hardly
a reliable source (bar talk).
